Magnet links in vb.net

I have a application in which I need to open information from a website, I need the user to be able to click a button and then the program to open and read the information given. Kinda like a magnet link for torrents. I could only think of doing it by associating a file type like .othermagnet and reading and then deleting the file afterwards. My question is is there a way to create magnet links and if not how would I go about adding file associations?

Solution 1

You can create file associations in windows, that's easy. But, a more obvious way is for your app to call a web service for data from your website.
