Luc has started[^] putting down his thoughts on an API.
My feelings on this are
a) I need to protect the servers from load and I don't currently have a spare couple of webservers and DB to dedicate to this. Yet. So don't be offended if I don't offer full data mining with unlimited results. Let's focus on what will make CodeProject better.
b) There's a lot going on so we'll need to pick and choose the most important items first and then grow from there. We all know how this works: the more we use it, the more ideas we'll have in how it should be done.
c) Unless there is an overwhelming reason to, and unless there is a simple way of providing permissions, you will not be able to view others' information, only your own. On your 'My Settings' page is a Security Token. This is your key to your data. Do not give it out to anyone else.

Hey Chris,

Well, the load's probably going to be higher with HTML scraping/parsing than if we just pulled just the bits we need from a web-service.

Not sure what you mean there. I can see anyone's post count, rep scores, message list, article list etc. now. The only thing that's private is their email and password.

Yeah, that makes sense.

The information I can provide will be far more than you currently can get, and you'll be able to access it far faster. Scraping articles puts a natural limit on the speed you can access this stuff.

You can see totals. You can't see dates or actual vote values with weights. Yes, I will probably open up that can of worms

I often read messages about these apps but then some time later when I want to look for them I often can't remember who the author is. Now I can just bookmark this page for future reference.
It's time for a new signature.

Nah. Dave is just trying to steal some bookmark points from the actual authors. You should bookmark the original articles straight away. Its Google and the news papers all over again.

Busted..........
I think 'they' thought of that, because, you can't vote on articles in this section, so don't think you get anything for bookmarks either! (Note: i wrote this before the bookmark thing anyway!)
Have you not got better things to do, like update CPV while waiting for the webservices.............
