The top requested features for Silverlight, WP7, and WPF

In less than two days, I am flying out to Seattle for the MVP Global Summit! At the summit, MVPs from around the world get to see what is next from the big blue mother ship! If you follow my blog, you surely know that I am very interested in WPF, Silverlight, and WP7. Here are the top requested features for each of these platforms.

WP7

  1. Copy and paste
  2. Flash and HTML5
  3. SkyDrive sync with Office Hub
  4. Add a screen capture feature
  5. A proper YouTube app, not the poor web version we have now
  6. Allow search of Marketplace by individual categories (apps, games, etc.) as opposed to combining them
  7. Separate volume levels for headphones plugged in and not plugged in
  8. The camera app should save any settings changes you make - it just resets them now
  9. Add Compass API access, navigation apps are useless without it
  10. Spotify App

Also read:

Silverlight

  1. Implement Silverlight on more platforms
  2. Full databinding support
  3. 3D support
  4. Consolidate WPF and Silverlight programming models
  5. Add file output support for Excel, PDF, XPS, etc.
  6. Add Report controls
  7. Encoding and streaming to Media Server / IIS
  8. Bundle Silverlight with Windows so that it will always be available
  9. Local database support (SQL Server Compact, SQLite) for OOB
  10. Add PersianCalendar class from the System.Globalization namespace to Silverlight, too

WPF

  1. Merge WPF and Silverlight to be one framework (that would be called Silverlight??)
  2. Make XAML a first class citizen of Visual Studio
  3. Modify the language to allow for observable properties rather than requiring explicit INPC
  4. Provide native support in the IDE for MVVM
  5. Support WCF RIA Services in WPF
  6. XAML debugging
  7. Improve WPF performance
  8. Improve WPF 3D
  9. Improve Visual Studio XAML-editing performance and memory usage
  10. Port all Silveright Toolkit Controls to WPF, especially the DataForm
