Hello - I would love this to have worked, but it ran itself smoothly through 458 links in my Favourites file (hmm; must clear that out some time) and didn't find any. Yet I know there's loads of obvious standards in there; eBay, Google etc. Is there a reason why it didn't find them? I often rename my links on screen to squish more on the Links button bar, for example - would that be it?
Cheers

Steve,
The Quick Launch bar also suffers from this problem of disappearing icons. So I updated FavIconizer to refresh que Quick Launch bar's icons in addition to the Favorite icons.
If you're interested I can send you the updated source code for you to post here.

First of all let me add my thanks to the many others. This really is a great little application.
My programming days were over a very long time ago so I can only offer a few comments.
1. The first time I used the application it crashed badly with (I think) an Illegal Memory type error.
The error message disappeared from the screen as well as aborting the app completely.
The second time I ran it it ran to completion. The only difference was the fact that in the first run I was continuing to use IE on the Web; the second time I had no IE (or other browser) running.
2. I noted that it had picked up about 50 % of the 'missing' icons (out of around 700). I thought it might have missed some but I have tested quite a few and they are genuinely 'no favicons'.
My impression at the moment is that FavIconizer does a really good job!
3. I suppose a wish list could go on a bit. I think a log would have been nice; in particular the program could have logged 'missing links'.
Reading through the forum I think NOYBNOYB is right (IE plugin); if FavIconizer could go in that direction we would be even more pleased. I also admit though that it would complicate the installation (Registry entries etc)
4.It seems (from the forum) that FavIconizer does NOT take a note of stored favicons; the scan speed would improve if it did!
Finally a question ... I note that this has been going on since early 2003. Is FavIconizer still being developed or are comments (other than THANKYOU) a waste of space?

Firstly - THANKS for your generosity in creating and making this program available, as I love favicons but am not a programmer myself (despite my misleading login name). I too had your problems using FavOrg.
Questions:
1. I downloaded the "demo project" and ran the exe. Do I need to download the "source files" too?
2. What is the difference/purpose of each one? This was unclear to me in the description.
3. If for some reason I need to uninstall or delete the (according to the description) apparently permanently hidden favicon subfolder in the Favorites (for space reasons or whatever) - how can I do this?
If you are planning any updates, I too agree with the user "Rough", that the opportunity to scan only selected directories or run a search only on URLs that have no favicons yet, would be a super addition. I have the obviously ridiculous amount of nearly 3000 favorites (somewhat over half of which have favicons) and so the update run time on the entire batch is significant.
Thanks again for the program and any advice.

On most sites the favicon in the address bar of IE6 is the blue IE one. With a little nudge to the right it displays okay; a fault with IE, I believe. Is there a permanent fix for this? There is no problem with favicons in ‘favorites’ for example.

Misses favicon of some favorites. I know these favorites have a favicon because AM-DeadLink finds them, but FavIconize doesn't.

Cool tool by the way. I like the way it works better than others I've tried.
What would really be cool though is a browser plug-in or something that would intercept the favicon when adding new a favorite, put the icon in the _icon directory and and assign it to the favorite shortcut.

First off let me start by thanking you for a wonderful tool, fixing one of the top three glaring omissions from Gates and Co. My question is this, ok, if I understand correctly, FavIconizer took the custom icons and put them in a special folder that it had made for them so the next time cleaning took place IE6 would not dispose of them; my question then is what happens to any new icons that will accumulate? Has FavIconizer told them to automatically go to the special folder it has created, or does FavIconizer need to be run periodically so it can place these new icons in the special folder?
Again thanks for a great tool.

You have to run it periodically. The tool only fetches the favicons when it's run and stores them in a separate (hidden) folder inside your favourites directory.

I never thought such a simple app could be so refreshing, in multiple ways I guess. its a nice little program. thanks a bunch. you should submit it to www.download.com. I'm sure there are many others that would enjoy it. though I would check the .zip demo project file you submitted. It was partially corrupt, somehow I managed to open it.

Help!!
I love the program but I need to change the location of the "_icons" folder. I am using "syncit"- a program that synchronizes bookmarks across multiple computers. The "_icons" folder interferes with the synchroniztion. Moving the "_icons" out of the "favorites" folder will solve the problem. Anyone?

on my 98SE box faviconizer pops a GPF after about 160 links processed fine so far. However, there are some 360 bookmarks in the Favorites.
ideas?

I have the same problem using Win98SE.
I have more than 1400 bookmarks in my favorites, and the GPF occurs after an increasing number of links processed on each attempt.
I looked at the source code, this looks like to be a problem inside the "CShellLink & CUrlShellLink" (see http://www.naughter.com/shelllink.html ) MFC classes used inside the problem, and maybe even a problem on the "IPersistFile::Save" Windows function used inside these classes.
Maybe very specific to Windows 98 SE, although I didn't test on any other Windows yet.
