Hello Dan,
I exported a number of selected tasks as an iCalendar file, having chosen the following task attributes to export under "Custom": Comments, Due Date, and Recurrence. When I tried to import the events from the .ics file into a calendar program (I use VueMinder; I also tried the importing on Google Calendar, with similar results), I ran into the following 3 problems:
1. A few of the tasks were originally either wholly or partially in Chinese. When they showed up on a VueMinder (or Google) calendar, the Chinese characters turned into "#"s.
2. Some of the tasks were recurrent. However, their recurrent status went missing when those tasks were imported into a VueMinder (or Google) calendar.
3. Some of the tasks had comments. When I first tried to import the .ics file into VueMinder, the importing failed. I had to re-export the tasks from ToDoList into a new .ics file after deselecting "Comments" as a task attribute to export in order to get them imported into VueMinder.
I then wrote to VueMinder's developer for help. After looking at the .ics file that I had exported from ToDoList, he gave me the following answers:
1. It was in that ICS file that the Chinese characters in the task titles and the comments turned into #s--i.e., the problem had occurred during the process of exporting the tasks from my TDL tasklist into the .ics file, and not in the process of importing the tasks from the .ics file into VueMinder.
2. "The reason recurrences aren’t importing is because that information is completely missing from the ICS file... There’s no “RRULE” line, which is required for recurring events. VueMinder is (correctly) importing the events as single occurrences. Unfortunately, there’s really no way for me to fix that problem when importing because without the RRULE information, there’s no other way to tell if an event is recurring or what type of recurrence pattern it should have."
3. The problem with the tasks' comments not being imported into VueMinder is "due to TDL not following the ICS file standard for descriptions that contain multiple lines."
I'd greatly appreciate any help you could give me on those 3 issues, Dan.
Many thanks, and happy new year!

Thx NT.
Could you also send me a VM file containing Chinese characters and its corresponding exported ICS file?

Hi Dan,
I just sent you the two files as requested.

Can you give 6.6.b2 a try and let me know if the recurrence and comments issue are fixed?

Hi Dan,
Yes, they are! Thank you so much for the totally amazing work in solving all 3 problems--ToDoList and VueMinder now work beautifully together!

I have a question, or a problem, that is not directly related to our discussions above, Dan: I didn't see your post on the 20th until today because I didn't receive an email notification from the forum, even though I'd chosen "E-mail me if someone replies to this message." Actually I've had this problem for a while: I used to receive email notifications of posts from the TDL forum, but one day they just stopped coming. I do still get email notifications of posts from other forums (not on the CodeProject site). I use Gmail, and have thoroughly searched the All Mail, Spam, Trash folders, but found no notifications from this forum. I asked for help on the Gmail forum, but haven't received any answer so far. Any suggestions on what I could try to get email notificaton to work for me again would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Dan.

I suggest you post on the 'Help > Bugs and Suggestions' forum (via the CodeProject menubar) and direct the post to Chris Maunder himself.
Also search the TDL forum, because this has been an ongoing problem for some people.

Get it Here.
Changes from 6.6.a3
- Fixed bug when typing multiple items into the category field
- Fixed bug with auto-multi-resorting
- Fixed bug restoring the last selected task
- Fixed copy and paste of RTF format using shortcuts (shortcuts have had to be changed to Ctrl+Alt+C/V to avoid an existing conflict)

Thank you so much. I confirm that now everything mentioned above works the way it should.
I wish you still a merry cristmas!
Alexandra
P.S. I noticed that "Edit Task Recurrence" is not accessable via shortcut or Rightclick Menu and Copy Format doest not copy Formattings like listings (bulletpoints) or Indent!

Sometimes you want to compare tasks, merge them or exchange text between them. It´s hard when you only see one task at the time. If one task is at a total different place/position it´s getting even more difficult!
In this case you want to see and to edit two tasks simultaneously!
I tried multiple instances. But when i change one thing in one window i have to reload the other instance as the two TDL-windows are operate as seperate applications and are not exchanging information directly like a second window in MS Word of the same document.
My suggestion comes actually from MS Word. The function there is named "Tile Window" and creates a horizontal borderline you can vertically position where you want. Now you can scroll the document independently in each windowpart. It´s great to compare passages of the document directly which are maybe 100 pages away.
In TDL such a line could work similar. It horizontally divides the tasklist and the comments into two sections. Each with a tasklist and the comments. Only one section is active and keycommands or mouseactions always will affect only the active section. There should be a keycommand to switch focus from one section to another. Also should Drag & Drop between the sections supported.
I´m afraid it may be tough to realize but may be of value.
Thank You
Alexandra

Yes, this is the sort of feature one would expect in an 'editing' type application.
Making it possible would require some underlying structural changes which I have been considering already, so once they are done I'll be in a better position to estimate when such a feature might be possible.
FYI, 6.7 will be be mainly concerned with a new Gantt view.

|
Another approach would be the possibility to open another window of tdl (not another instance) where changes in one window would be represented instantly in the other window or e.g. refreshed when another task is selected.

Copying and pasting formats via Right-Click Menu works.
But doing this via CTRL + SHIFT + C, V does not. In my case the word gets pasted without changing the format!
Thank You

Fixed in 6.6.a4, but I've had to change the shortcuts to Ctrl+Alt+C/V to avoid an existing conflict.

Somehow in Alpha Release 3 TDL when opened does not select the last task you worked on but always the first (most upper) task with priority one!
Thank You

I'm not sure I can exactly reproduce the problem as you describe it, but when I looked at the code there was definitely something strange happening!
|
|
|
|

|
It´s 100% reproduceable in my case.
The topmost task with a priority of 1 is selected.
Thank You
Alexandra
