Introduction

Member of my Temple would like to locate the urn of their loved one from the shelf using Touch Desktop PC, Smartphone, or Tablet devices. Since Window Azure has all the features that I need to made this possible for all the members going to my Temple. Also, I can put all the important documents, forms related to my Temple in one place and secured. This would be easy for the Temple's Board of Directors accessed all the documents at one place. I signed on to the free trial account yesterday, May 02, 2013.

Background

We did a website and has it hosted by one of the Web Host Site. It's starting get expensive if you want added more features to the website. Also, it's becoming cubersome to manage the website and talked to one of those Smartphone or Tablet. I have read about Window Azure capabilities. I have suggested the Window Azure Cloud Service to the BOD and they liked it. It has SQL Database to store Member's profile, Urn's location, all important documents. VM machine to scale our need for storage, web application, and all the software licenses that we do not have to worry about. Finally, this is a great opportunity for me to learn and use Window Azure.

Using the code

I will extract our small website from our current Web Host and integrated this on to Window Azure. Before I do this, I need to add in new codes to locate the urn of the deceased person. There are almost 600 urns at one of our Temple's building. I'll used SQL Azure for the data storage. The VM will be used for development and testing the new web site. The last thing is getting the Smartphone or Tablet connect to Window Azure for requested informations from the database, which stored the Temple's data. All the code will be included as the project progressed.

Points of Interest

While reading about Window Azure, I learned a lots about Cloud Services. Hopefully, coding in Window Azure as easy as it advertised.
