Please note

This article is an entry in our AppInnovation Contest. Articles in this sub-section are not required to be full articles so care should be taken when voting.

Introduction

  • Platform Targeted - Entertainment (All in One device)
  • Overview - A browser which let you express yourself using gestures and voice commands etc.
  • Languages Used - WPF 4.5, C#.NET.
  • Intended Uses - Every user is Intended User of application. See Intended User section.
  • Approach Taken - see Approach Taken section.

The application idea best fits under Entertainment (All-In-One device)

The above download is a small demo of the capability of this next generation browser. This app was initially created for Intel Perceptual Computing Phase 1 contest and will be redesigned for this contest from scratch. User may have to install Intel PreC sdk in order to test this browser. I have added this download section so that user can test and realize capability of this web browser and how it can change user's internet surfing experience completely.

Before we begin I would like to add a video tutorial of this application so that readers of application will get clear picture of what we are planning to do here.

Here is the youtube link of idea.

Here is github repository link for application. When user  browse github repository they will find documents like readme and a user guide about browser. The guide will explain all voice commands and gestures supported by browser. This browser is already fully touch aware but need more improvement of touch gestures.

Currently browser using IE 7 and it will continue using IE 7 control or above based on IE installation on machine.

Note : As mentioned above this application is originally created for Intel Perceptual Computing Challenge. But for this contest, it will be redesigned from scratch and will not depend on Perceptual Computing Sdk and user need not to have Creative Gesture Cam.

Let's Begin

We spend lot of our time in internet surfing. It starts right from morning checking mail, social networking and tweeting etc.

How will you feel when you need not to type anything or very little typing on your web browser and just surf internet by commanding your web browser?  Is it possible?

Yes, it is possible. We are going to make it possible with this app.

I will be writing this app which will utilize Lenovo All-In-One awesome features. NetExpresso is not just a browser which consumes user’s huge typing effort to surf internet. It is an innovative idea in the world of technologies which let user browses the content on internet by understanding user’s voice, touch and gesture.

Imagine commanding yourself : navigate   google.com and there you have google ready for searching.
Search   Lenovo store in bangalore and there you have search results ready for you.

here navigate and search is command followed by dictation.

Background

I am writing this app to participate in Intel App Innovation Contest 2013.

In order to understand this, you should have basic knowledge of C# programming and WPF (XAML).

Idea Overview

What features of device we will be utilizing with this app:

Touch and Multitouch - Application will be fully touch aware and will support multi-touch. Other devices like external stylus, detachable form factor of the tablets will also be supported in app.

Gestures - User will be able to navigate among pages, browsing history using simple gestures. User will be able to zoom page using simple pinch to zoom gestures etc.

Voice Commands and Dictation - Application will be fully loaded with voice commands and voice dictation. User will be easily able to control browser using commands and can dictate anything in simple English language.

Imagine commanding yourself : navigate   google.com and there you have google ready for searching.

Here navigate is an application command and google.com is dictation which can be anything say bing.com or intel.com as well (it is not predefined in application).

Note : Application will only be supporting English language as off now.

Key Features:

This browser will be supporting below mentioned features: All these browsing features will be supported using voice and gestures

Navigation among pages using voice and gestures.

Chrome style multiple tab browsing

Bookmarking pages using bookmark button

Maintaining browsing history

Easy reloading of page and stopping it

Saving last browsing session and restoring it back.

Settings of browser

Searching using different search engines.

Intuitive training help for voice and gesture.

And many other features will be supported with this browser.

Here is new browser design which I have created recently for contest from scratch

Below is old design of browser

Approach towards development -

I will be creating a windows 8 desktop app in Visual Studio 2012 using .Net Framework 4.5, where I will be integrating touch gestures, multi-touch gestures and voice capability (voice command and voice dictation) of AIO.

You would have got the feel of this browser from test download section. I have also attached the new design for the application above.

There will be plenty more in finished browser application.

Intended Users -

This app will be helpful for every end user and especially for physically challenge users who browse internet using web browsers. This will work on Desktop, Laptops but its best capability can be exposed on Windows 8 enabled devices like AIO, Tablets and Ultrabooks where you will be able to use every feature of this application.

Apart from these features user will also be provided with great intuitive help, where user will be able to test gestures, voice commands etc available in application. Application will have intuitive training help for user where user will be easily able to learn all voice commands and gestures.

Platform Used -

I will be using C# as my primary language for coding. Designing of application will be done in XAML (WPF).

Users who and have read previous revisions of this article will be knowing that in previous articles application was integrated with Intel Perceptual Computing Sdk and now its without PreC Sdk.

Please leave your suggestions and comments regarding improvement in idea and is app idea good with PreC sdk or without PreC Sdk?

Please do correct me if I am wrong somewhere.

Thanks for having me.
