More of a buzzphrase - but when did "I couldn't care less" (which makes perfect sense if you're telling someone that something really doesn't matter to you) turn into "I could care less" (which probably means you care quite a lot about the issue in question)?
Ack - drives me nuts! Strangely I only ever seem to come across it on CP (most other forums I frequent are UK or Aussie based, maybe it's an American thing?) which is why I thought I'd add it to this superb new board

Very noticeable by the multitude of new "faces" - great to see CP is still thriving .

Awesome thanks - Emma's just turned 6 months, so life's becoming slightly more normal again. Mikey will be 3 in 4 months time - how life whizzes by!
How are you doing? Last I heard from you you were moving to Glasgow, has that worked out well?

Hey Megan,
That's truly a buzzphrase. Thanks for the laughs.

My goodness! They're just too cute. I'd love to have them in my hands and play with them.
[edit]Especially, I loved the photo where the kid is analyzing a suspicious piece of pasta [/edit]

"I could care less" is usually from people who don't know any better.
But we in the know use it to indicate an additional amount of apathy; where caring less would actually require some effort.
Or, more likely, some other force requires us to have an opinion, so some attention must me paid.

Truthfully, it's a pronunciation thing. "I could care less" comes out a lot easier in most American accents than "I couldn't care less", and the syllable is dropped according to the principles of syncope.
... or should I have explained that with more synergy for continued excellence in our field as we go forward?

I think the Quote: "I could care less" implies the follow-up phrase, "but it's too much effort to be so extremely uncaring."
