The BCCI fixed it to some standard prices (based on levels), and individual players had the option to increase it. Although, only the celeb players did that - the junior players were happy with just playing I guess.
That's business. This IPL auction thing has overpowered what the senior players did to the country. Utter shame.
No shame. This is sports, not academics. Sportsmen career has a quicker expiry date, unlike say a scientist. These players can still play a mentor role, only if the leave their ego and come to terms with the reality. Besides, business is business, no one wants to tag along a limp horse, even for free.
They may have a quick expiry date but it does not mean you just ignore what they have done for the nation.
True, but not selecting him does not mean he's being ignored. He should have quit like Kumble did I think, to be safe. His strike rate was a major concern last season and his slow knocks did cost them at least 2 games. I reckon he'd be a good choice as a mentor for KKR (and it seems Shah Rukh may do that eventually).
It was ok that no-one want him to be picked at first place, but what hurt most is ganguly was nominated by franchise again for re-auction, And again no-one picked. That was like playing with the players. And that's dirty business.
I didn't know he was in re auction too! I only saw how people were jeering at Mohammad Kaif when he was on for the third time, almost after the auction was over, and finally the liquor fella purchased him. This kind of treatment is no doubt despicable.
