For those new to message boards please try to follow a few simple rules when posting your question.- Choose the correct forum for your message. Posting a VB.NET question in the C++ forum will end in tears.
- Be specific! Don't ask "can someone send me the code to create an application that does 'X'. Pinpoint exactly what it is you need help with.
- Keep the subject line brief, but descriptive. eg "File Serialization problem"
- Keep the question as brief as possible. If you have to include code, include the smallest snippet of code you can.
- Be careful when including code that you haven't made a typo. Typing mistakes can become the focal point instead of the actual question you asked.
- Do not remove or empty a message if others have replied. Keep the thread intact and available for others to search and read. If your problem was answered then edit your message and add "[Solved]" to the subject line of the original post, and cast an approval vote to the one or several answers that really helped you.
- If you are posting source code with your question, place it inside <pre></pre> tags. We advise you also check the "Encode HTML tags when pasting" checkbox before pasting anything inside the PRE block, and make sure "Ignore HTML tags in this message" check box is unchecked.
- Be courteous and DON'T SHOUT. Everyone here helps because they enjoy helping others, not because it's their job.
- Please do not post links to your question in one forum from another, unrelated forum (such as the lounge). It will be deleted.
- Do not be abusive, offensive, inappropriate or harass anyone on the boards. Doing so will get you kicked off and banned. Play nice.
- If you have a school or university assignment, assume that your teacher or lecturer is also reading these forums.
- No advertising or soliciting.
- We reserve the right to move your posts to a more appropriate forum or to delete anything deemed inappropriate or illegal.

Apologies for the shouting but this is important.
When answering a question please:
- Read the question carefully
- Understand that English isn't everyone's first language so be lenient of bad spelling and grammar
- If a question is poorly phrased then either ask for clarification, ignore it, or mark it down. Insults are not welcome
- If the question is inappropriate then click the 'vote to remove message' button
Insults, slap-downs and sarcasm aren't welcome. Let's work to help developers, not make them feel stupid.

Hi,
Very sorry to bother you with a basic question.
I am planning to well maintain my desktop PC. It has the Windows OS (Windows XP) and connected to internet.
I do the following activities, on weekly basis. - Windows Update - Anti Virus Update - Scanning my PC with Antivirus
Would you please let me whether I need to do any further activities?
Many thanks.
Regards, Reshma.

As well as running antivirus, you should probably look at running anti-spyware protection. I assume you have a firewall installed.
Finally, schedule regular backups of your system - that's vital if you should happen to lose it.

Besides doing what Pete has said, don't rely on a single anti-malware (anti-spyware) program, they all check different things so no one is good enough, so, use a small selection of them. Also to keep your machine as efficient as possible, periodically run CCleaner and a defragmenter such as Defraggle. Also, from time to time, do a checkdsk.
Also check that you do not have programs auto-running that don't need auto-running from boot. And if your computer does malfunction in some big way, worth your while having a boot-time recovery disk, as well as having access to SysInternalsSuite.

hmmm... if so, why does everybody need to post the question in CP forum. Any question should be ask to the company that produce the product or the software directly. no need discussion or sharing knowledge/expereince in CP forum.

Depends what the question is about. If its a problem with code then someone with experience can probably help. When its something like this, which is a product specification, then the best bet is to contact the manufacturer or try google. I mean, realistically, why would you expect anyone on a programming forum to know this? The same applies to questions about 3rd party controls, the vendor is the best person to ask.

I tried already in google and the Canon website in Asia but I could not get an information that I need. I hope someone in here might used it because this place mix of people around the world. And here is not a programming forum. It is General IT forum, if the question is not relevant to someone to answer, just ignore it. I never push them to answer my question. What I hope is there expereince if they already used this product.

They don't need to but too often it's because they cannot make the effort to search in the obvious place for the answer, but just assume that someone here on CP will do it for them.

Yes, that is what I expected for. Because I try to search on the net and did not found the information that I need, that is why I try to check in here if anyone expereince with this printer.

You tell us?? CP is dedicated to programming and you're asking about hardware specifications...
Mekong River wrote: Any question should be ask to the company that produce the product or the software directly.
That's the best place to ask since they developed said hardware/software!
Mekong River wrote: no need discussion or sharing knowledge/expereince in CP forum.
As I already said, since CP is dedicated to programming, the chances of someone who answers questions reguarly having such a printer are very low. You'd have a MUCH higher chance of getting an obscure question such as this answered by asking the people who built the printer.
You ask in the most appropriate place to have the greatest chance of an answer. If it was me, I probably be looking in the manual first, and if I didn't have that, searching on Canon's site for a downloadable version, and beyond that, calling up Canon's Tech Support.

I'm concerned about privacy. Is information from my machine embedded? Should I compile it on a very old PC which will never be online again? Are there any (free) online compiling services? I'm using SharpDevelop for .NET 2

In what? Your .EXE that you compile? No.
kfx666 wrote: Should I compile it on a very old PC which will never be online again?
Why would you want to? There's nothing identifiable in the .EXE.
kfx666 wrote: Are there any (free) online compiling services?
Not that are any good.

I've been contacted by a company that is looking for the following from me:
"What we are looking for is automation of our office. We have started to work in Access to get some automation of document production in place. However, we have not done much beyond the use of merge. But because most of our documents are populated with the same types of basic information, we were thinking that the process can be automated much more extensively.
There are five basic programs that we are using Word, Access, Outlook, Excel, pdf (not certain if that is a program exactly). There is a government filing system we would like to be able to download into- but that may be a step too far.
We have incoming documents that at the present time we cut information from and past this information into our documents. The cut and paste process is time consuming, inefficient, and prone to errors."
Would anyone make a suggestion on what programming language would be best/easiest to complete this task in? Namely, I'm looking for a language that can create these different types of documents.
Any suggestions? Thank you very much!

Python might be worth looking into. It is able to interact with the Office apps. mentioned, as well as pdf. But I've no idea what limitations it may have.
