The article submission is really starting to bug me ... basically i just use the html source editor and not the WYSIWYG and have <br \> ... after saving and going back in one br seems to occasionally (doesn't seem to always happen) become 2... and then 4 ... and so on
Does anyone else have this??
Thanks

Hi CP
It seems that, when my forum responses get beyond a certain length, the preview stops updating no matter where I make changes in the body of the text.
Here's a screenshot.[^]

My Sig looks fine when I edit it, but in the preview when posting and after posting the HTML tags are visible. Started happening this morning when posting from iPadand I assumed it was Safari issue - but still happening now from Chrome in W7 <a href="http://www.codeproject.com/KB/WPF/MVVMEpisode1.aspx">MVVM# - See how I did MVVM my way</a> ___________________________________________ <i>Man, you're a god.</i> - walterhevedeich 26/05/2011 .\\axxx (That's an 'M')

When you go to a tip, you will see "Update your article" (when hovered says "Update Article") and "About Article". The top-level item in the breadcrumb is also "Articles". Near the bottom, you will see a link that says "Article Top".
Pretty much every time "article" appears, it should be replaced with "tip".
|
|
|
|

|
When I go to my articles and click the "Tips" tab, there is no metric listed for views for each tip. I noticed, however, that if I visit one of my tips, it shows the view count on the right of the page.
While I'm here, I may as well also mention that my tip, Call JavaScript in an ASP.NET User Control, hasn't appeared on the homepage yet (when I select the "Latest Tips" from the drop down). However, I suspect that is just due to some aggressive caching.

In Quick Answers, I usually scroll down to C# and click to limit the results to a language I know a little about. Last Wee I did so, and got the humorous result:
Sorry, no entries were found matching tags C#, C#
I posted about it in the Lounge, we all got a good laugh about it, and moved on. But this morning I get the same message, so it apparently is not the momentary glitch I thought it was.

I also get the notification box on this forum.
It was working this morning, and I haven't changed email address or anything which should be causing CP to say I need to reverify.

Not sure if this is just me:
I'm looking at Who's Who, ordered by reputation (& "All Types"). I noticed SAK's account [^] isn't there, it should be between Christian's & Sacha's. If I put "Sergey" in the search name, he still isn't on the first page. If I put his full name in the search box, there he is.

At present if you navigate to;
http://www.codeproject.com/Members/daveauld/ - it obviously takes me to my membership profile
How about adding some more routes into the grand scheme of things such as;

/tips
/messages
/comments
/questions
/answers
/reputation
/etc.
At the moment, if I do http://www.codeproject.com/Members/daveauld/articles[^] it still takes me to my profile.
It will help making links look a bit better etc. etc.

fyi: Win 8/74 Chrome Browser Version 26.0.1410.64 m
I'm not absolutely sure that the behavior I describe here is the result of CP's page handling, rather than something to do with Chrome, but I assume is CP causing what's described here, not Chrome.
When you use CP's "Thread View," and you then open a thread, for example: a comment on an article (with or without responses to the comment, whether there is one comment, or many) ...
CP (or Chrome ?) does a full-page refresh which then "jumps you" back to the top of the page, which means you need to navigate down to the bottom again to see the now opened comment.
If you then click on "View All Threads" that will do another full-page refresh, and you're back at the top of the page.
It's not exactly a "killer burden" for me to hit the End key on my keyboard to get back down to the bottom of the page, but, imho, the full-page refresh is not optimal either. And often, when there are many comments on a thread, or article, then I have to scroll back up from page-bottom to re-locate the point at which I was last looking at a comment.
If what I speak here is really an inherent Chrome specific browser-related property, then I apologize to all for wasting your time
thanks, Bill

This week I noted that certainly, even if I got new votes of 5 my articles average rating decreased, and I do not know why?
-For example my next article http://www.codeproject.com/Articles/545026/MVC-Basic-Site-Step-2-Exceptions-Management has 20 votes of 5 and 2 votes of 4 and the average is computed now 4.81, but it should be around 4.95, because( 5*20 +2*4)/22= 4.9545.
-For the latest article http://www.codeproject.com/Articles/576286/MVC-Basic-Site-Step-3-Dynamic-Layouts-and-Site-Adm the situation is even stranger, because I have 31 votes and all of them are noted with 5, and the result must be 5, but from this morning is 4.99.
Could you please solve this issue!

When I'm trying to hire, my company tells me to use LinkedIn to source candidates. Of course, Code Project is an amazing community of skilled people and would be a great source. I didn't see a jobs posting board for the community. Has this been considered? Does it exist and I just can't find it?

It's nice to see articles recognized for being well written and insightful. Having the best article of the month medal is really nice...
But how about put a small mention on all good articles that have competed for best article of the month but did not win. It doesn't need a medal, but a small gray label near the rating would please a lot of contributors and I think it is well deserved.

Hi CP admins,
A few months ago, I reported a bug, and because of that bug, I got 350 Participant points when I updated my settings. This bug is fixed already, but now I realize me: I've updated my settings 3 times before the bug was fixed, so I've 1050 Participant points too much!
Can someone remove these 1050 Participant points?

Okay, maybe it's not that serious, and I've probably posted this before, but I can't believe a place like Code Project has no Python section. It's pretty much my 'goto-language', very popular, and a google favorite. Remind me again why there is no Python section?
I queried another favorite site of mine about an "embedded code" or "Arduino, ATMega, etc." section and was told that there simply wasn't enough time or man hours to implement it, and that tags would be better suited for this, and I should just tag C projects with the proper "embedded" tag. Is it something like that going on here? I wouldn't know where to start with a "python"-tagged post. There's not even a "Scripting" section, though things like Javascript have a home in "Web Development".
I see python-tagged articles, and a few python quick answers in "General Programming" but that doesn't seem right.

Having just written my Azure challenge article, I noticed some issues with code downloads attached to the article. Here are some suggestions:
- Show files of unknown extensions. In the "browse code" tab, files with an unknown extension just don't display at all. Examples include cscfg, ccproj, settings, browser, asax, and csdef. It would be nice if you displayed files with unknown extensions as plain text (i.e., no syntax highlighting). You could still maintain an exclusion list of extensions you intentionally do not display (e.g., images, flash files, videos, sound files, other media).
- Collapse tree. When in "browse code", it can be confusing to browse through large projects. It would be nice if the hierarchy could be collapsed (like in Visual Studio). I'd either collapse everything by default, or show a button that collapses everything (like in Visual Studio 2012).
- Track external downloads. For my article, I had a large code sampe (17.6MB), so I had to link to it externally rather than upload it to Code Project. I'm pretty sure these external downloads are not tracked (which makes the download count shown next to the article potentially very inaccurate). Some ideas for tracking external downloads: JavaScript that detects when the link is clicked, or pass through an intermediate redirect page before reaching the download, or allow a Code Project server to act as a proxy through which the externally hosted file is downloaded.

Putting 'Part 1 of...' makes article titles too long, plus authors have to know in advanced how many part articles are going to be.
I suggest that 'CP' allows authors to connect a set of related articles to each other and also provides readers a navigation mechanism, like a simple box of links to all parts beside such articles.
Thanks.

I recently found that I can't download the zipped code files which are attached to articles. Whenever I have clicked a download link on an article, it returns back to the article page without any promopt.
Can anyone help?

who can check it?

Looking at the source of one of my articles, I noticed a double "complete=true" attributes:
<img width="594" height="324" alt="New Empty Web Application (ParchmentPurveyor)" src="/KB/aspnet/Manage_JS_In_AspNet/new_web_app_small.png" complete="true" complete="true" />
Not sure what that attribute is in the first place, but it's also strange that there are two of them.
I doubt I would have added that to the original... perhaps inserted by the RTE or by some server-side logic.

One of the frustrating things about starting a software business is getting my products known. CodeProject has one of the greatest user bases out there, yet because I don't have (or cannot afford) a marketing department, I can't get in on the advertising at the top of the page. I also can't post about my own products, so I'm stuck trying to get my word out without using CodeProject...
How effective are the ads really? CP probably works on either a pay-per-click or pay-per-impression basis which gets ignored by a majority of people anyway. I'm guessing 90% of your active user base never clicks the ads anyway, so the follow-through and ROI is probably pretty low for displayed ads.
I understand the reason for not letting businesses post articles about their own products, you are trying to push manufacturers into your revenue stream. I'm not saying this is a bad thing, CP is a free service that many of us enjoy thoroughly.
So the question begs to be asked, how to protect (or even increase) CP's revenue stream while giving your business members a greater exposure and follow through?
The CodeProject Market
A place where CP allows verified businesses to sell software components. CP gets a percentage of each sale, in exchange for a listing in the CP market. The CP market would allow me to introduce my products to a larger user base and have a good way to get it out there. This isn't the CP gallery where people just list products, prices, a short description, etc, this is a place to actually sell.
The challenge to introducing this would be requiring the business member to have a price that is at least as good if not better than what they would list on their website, and that the market listing could not just redirect somewhere else for the sale completion.
I know that this would require some additional infrastructure, account management, etc but I think the investment would work out well for CP.

Hi,
May you add the "votes" and "Comments & Discussions" options in the search? With those,we can find the most voted and the most comments article.
Thanks!

When i give comments on questions or anyone's answer,i often feel if there are some editing options on there,it would be great! Consider, i like someone's comment very much, then if there are some options like emotions pic, font editing tools etc just like those features which we get in New Message Section then it would be great. It also saves some time, makes the system more fluent.Isn't it?

Chris,
Firstly, thanks for the opportunity to have done the coder interview that was published yesterday, it certainly hadn't crossed my mind, and didn't expect to be asked for various reasons!
Anyway back to the bug, I have noticed that since the article was published, I do get the email notifications that someone has posted a message to the article, but never see any notifications appearing on the red header counter on the website next to the username.
Cheers,
Dave

The names of the posters are all displayed in bold font in the comments section at the bottom of articles. This is not consistent with the forums, where only the name of the poster opening a thread is bold, but the name of the answerers is displayed in normal font.
