Press Releases

Welcome to the new Press Releases forum! Our old press release system has been retired but we've moved everything and everyone to a new, shinier home. Enjoy!

A press release must be written for the purpose of announcing something newsworthy. Advertisements, promotions, or anything smelling even vaguely of spam will be deleted. All press releases must be relevant to the development community.

GeneralCODEPROJECT.COM: NEW LOOK EASIER TO USE, MORE “MODERN” Pin

Redesign Based On Windows UI (“Metro”) Design Principles

TORONTO, ON, September 19, 2012 — Today, CodeProject.com, a Lake Quincy Media Inc. property, launches a redesigned site layout. The new layout is designed to put articles and conversations – by software developers, for software developers, front and center. The new look is built on the Windows UI design principles – replacing “chrome” with content. Not only does the website look different, but it also feels different: it’s easier for both casual and frequent visitors to find information they need.

“We also started focusing on the articles themselves since they are what keeps us at CodeProject passionate. Safari's “Reader” mode made a big impression on us since it allows you to focus on the content, not the chrome, and that theme was one we kept coming back to. Make the content the most important thing on the page, and give the content room to breathe. Fairly simple ideas, and, conveniently enough, ideas encapsulated in the Metro Design language that Windows 8 was built on,” said CodeProject co-founder and CTO, Chris Maunder.

Pete O’Hanlon, redesign collaborator and CodeProject MVP, said, “Metro is a “design language” that is heavily influenced by the Swiss style of graphic design. Swiss design makes heavy use of blocky colours, whitespace and clean fonts, and it heavily relies on text for navigation, rather than on funky iconography. A clear aim of metro is to drop chrome, and replace it with content. By judiciously grouping things together, common tasks should be easier to accomplish.”

Maunder adds, “We studiously focused on thinking about what each page was meant to do, and more importantly, what each page should not do.”

The new design is the most radical overhaul of the site since its inception in 1999. Developers worldwide are invited to visit CodeProject.com, see the new design – and find the world’s leading development community and technical article library.
