Google announced that it was going to start charging law enforcement authorities for legal data disclosure requests, such as subpoenas and search warrants, related to its users. I guess they're always on the lookout for a nice profitable revenue stream

Federal, states, and other government bodies in the US are required to provide records as requested by the republic and that they may charge a reasonable fee for retrieval and redaction of these records.

That chapter definitely ended too quick and tail recursion optimization?!? Oh boy. I keep trying to like Functional Programming. 
I do like the concepts of Pure Functions to keep things clean without causing side effects though.
But the resulting syntax and depending upon Declarative things to just do a thing feels a bit like typing code without really understanding what the computer is doing.
One more thing...If you get the entire book (second link) you will read the following (my italics) in the 2nd chapter...
book says: Pure functions are easy to test, but pure effects aren’t. Is it possible to change this? Yes,it is, by treating effects in a different way. That’s what pure functional programmingdoes. In this paradigm, everything is a function. Values are functions, functions are functions, and effects are functions. Instead of applying effects, functional program-mers use functions returning data representing the intended effect in a non-evaluatedform. In such a programming paradigm, everything is a function and everything is data because there’s no difference between data and functions.
