So there's not much that these data-slurping wankers can do to hurt me, and I've got no real reason to hide behind a bushel.
But that's not the point.
It's the violation.
I've never been burglarised, but I know that it traumatises people, knowing that some stranger has been in their house, going through all their private, personal memories, just to cold-heartedly steal whatever they can sell.
Knowing that uncaring, contemptuous eyes have stared at your precious mementos is an absolute violation. A little piece of your heart is broken, each time. It can only hurt people, and can do no good.
And that is exactly what the data slurpers do. If people were aware of everything they slurp, everything they look at, everything they touch, they would light torches and burn the b*st*rds down.

Well, this article is about datasets from breaches made by hackers. Of course, if companies weren't collecting the info then there would be nothing to "breach".
I find this quote at the end of the article incredibly naive, as if a law would mean anything:

Hmmm,
Linux is swiss cheese. Back when I had access to Vupen via a shared account the commercial product exploits had an expiration date internally called EOL (End of Life) when disclosure occured. Interestingly the Linux exploits appeared to be perpetual until public disclusure. Some of them were available for over 3+ years. I always assumed it was because of some legal issues. Nobody owns Linux so there is nobody to answer to.

Yes, there are a few commonalities there. One error too - WinRAR is not a Microsoft product, AFAIK. Did they buy them too?

WinRAR is immensely useful, well built, robust, and intuitive, and it has an extremely small footprint.

TL;DR: TeamViewer stored user passwords encrypted with AES-128-CBC ... in the Windows registry. If the password is reused anywhere, privilege escalation is possible. If you do not have RDP rights to machine but TeamViewer is installed, you can use TeamViewer to remote in. TeamViewer also lets you copy data or schedule tasks to run through their Service, which runs as NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM, so a low privilege user can immediately go to SYSTEM with a .bat file. This was assigned CVE-2019-18988.
The developers of Teamviewer went communication silent after the issue was reported in November, and so after being unable to get any followup the researcher who found the flaw has published in full.
