Introduction

This RSS reader is a Web Control Library that you can add to your website to show the latest news either from your website or from any other website on net; it really adds a professional look and act behaviour for your website

check it live on http://www.arabic-asp.net/ and www.arabic-asp.net/controls.aspx

Arabic readers

Before I begin, I should say that there is already a detailed arabic article I wrote, check www.arabic-asp.net/article5.aspx

This web site is a new one, I'd like to share my knoweldge with you to help us all spread programing for arabic speakers

Background

Everyone knows what RSS is, in a small definition, RSS is nothing but a small XML page that contains the latest news or articles from some website, its importance lies in its small and easy behavior, hence anyone can just get so easily the latest news; anyone can a have a freeware windows application that reads the RSS and show it; while here I’m showing a web control library that will read the latest news and show it on your website;

The importance of this library is as follows: in a any decent website, you’ll see some moving effects showing the latest news or articles on your website; well you can use my library for doing that so so easily, and even, you can do as I did on my website www.arabic-asp.net where I used the RSS reader to show the latest science news from Arabic BBC website – just to add some taste;

Using the code

I cannot say that it’s easy to develop such functionality, after some hard work, I managed to made a web control library that will make the whole show, it’s completely free, after all the intention is helping and teaching;

Once you add the DLL file, you’ll be able to set the following properties:

    • Backcolor
    • Forecolor
    • Hovercolor
    • Source (whether a local saved XML file or a URL for live reading of data)
    • Direction (ltr or rtl for Arabic language)
    • Target (links opening target, as a normal href)
    • Caching (in minutes, it’s the most important feature, no one wants that his website’s visitors are waiting for an RSS feeds page to be loaded)

Since changes might happen to this library, check my web site for any later versions

Enjoy;

Samer
