Because the line does not end there and in the end we would not be any smarter than that there are living things on this planet. We could not even distinguish between plants, animals and the other forms of life. Besides that, it also gives us clues how evolution has played out. Discovering a fossil of a dinosaur that's older than all known amphibians would cause a lot of questions that demanded answers.
Historically they were quite unsure where birds fit into that evolutionary tree, even if some relation to reptiles was always suspected. Turned out that they are the last surviving dinosaurs.

This really got way off topic, I think. I was just curious why you referred to ducks as dinosaurs. And if the other person was right that you did it because of evolution then why stop at dinosaurs?

Simply because many people would love to see a living dinosaur, unaware that dinosaurs are alive and well. At least one last branch of their large family tree, which has become a tree of its own by now.

Not so weird if you look at that thread below about jumping off a cliff. A T-Rex (one of the largest Theropods) might be a good reason. Griff wrote that the T-Rex is extinct. True, but it could theoretically be recreated because we have indeed found some of its DNA. Practically this would probably not work unless we get far better at reconstructing the whole genome, but the DNA of a bird, a decendant of a smaller Theropod, could help.
And yes, I always liked ducks. Even 100000 of them are not as scary as one of their bigger cousin from 65 million years ago.

Because "fish" is a paraphyletic classification, not a clade. Tetrapods (including birds) are not fish because we (silly humans) decided to define fish in a way to excludes some of their descendants.

A horde of cats would be just as effective. We had swarms of locusts in Texas from time to time. The cat went crazy and ate as many locusts as she could. Chasing flies never was of any interest again. I seriously doubt that 100000 cats in one place would behave as well as the ducks or let themselves be led as easily to the battle.
