1. The lounge is for the CodeProject community to discuss things of interest to the community, and as a place for the whole community to participate. It is, first and foremost, a respectful meeting and discussion area for those wishing to discuss the life of a Software developer.

Technical discussions are welcome, but if you need specific programming question answered please use Quick Answers[^], or to discussion your programming problem in depth use the programming forums[^]. We encourage technical discussion, but this is a general discussion forum, not a programming Q&A forum. Posts will be moved or deleted if they fit better elsewhere.
3. No sys-admin, networking, "how do I setup XYZ" questions. For those use the SysAdmin[^] or Hardware and Devices[^] forums.

7. Not everyone's first language is English. Be understanding.
Please respect the community and respect each other. We are of many cultures so remember that. Don't assume others understand you are joking, don't belittle anyone for taking offense or being thin skinned.

I just watched the final between Borussia .v. Bayern and Bayern won 2-1. I usually never bother watching soccer but bloody 'eck those Krauts know a thing or two about playing it. I was completely hooked on tonight's game. Even Herr Merkel was at Wembley (or is it Vembley?) to watch the game. When the cameras recorded the emotions of the crowed, there was some half-decent totty on show.
It was a very good game to watch. It won't convert me to soccer as I'm a rugger man myself but after this evening's game Germany has proved that world soccer is in very good hands.
Well done the Krauts.

That's the reason I went to JQuery. Went to MooTools first because I found JQuery difficult but once I bit the bullet I settled on JQuery.

I still don't understand why M$ took out DVD playback in Windows 8. So I am now downloading VLC media player to play a Mythbusters DVD I want to watch.
Dammit, M$.
Don't get me wrong, I like VLC, as it plays pretty much everything under the sun, and it can play regionalized DVDs without having to change the DVD drive's region settings! That is a handy thing to have.

Didn't Vista take out DVD play back as well? Maybe it is every other version of windows they remove dvd playback...test the waters...see who still finds it useful.

Come to the UK and subscribe to Sky Shite TV. On a Saturday and Sunday morning (seeing as the onshore office is 'closed'), we are required to produce the daily region report to send out to all the big hitters in the company around the world, This ranges from the Chairman/CEO, numerous VPs etc. at present the distribution list is in the region of 80+ people.
We use a spreadsheet to collate the relative numbers and compose the required narratives before copying into an email. There is lots that can go wrong and sometimes does. Especially when the numbers don't balance.
It doesn't matter how many times, I check, re-check, re-re-check, re-re-re-check etc. (think you know what I mean), I still absolutely brick myself that moment before the SEND button is clicked.
Then there is that period of anticipation from the moment it is sent to late on in the day, when you are just waiting for someone to notice a mistake. Fortunately it has only happened to me a couple of times over the last 18 months.
So, I have just sent the report.......

You must be too hungry. I figure if you aren't hungry, you wouldn't be concerned about such things.
I had to coordinate a major oil company budget about 30 years ago - no internet, email, etc. At the end, part of the budget didn't balance and I had no idea what was wrong. The regional manager started to berate me, so I listened calmly, then asked him to show me how to fix the error and offered to resign if he thought that would fix the problem.
His response: "You're never going to work on a budget again."
I could live with that ... and was perfectly happy not working on the rest of the budgets for the last 5 or 6 years I worked there.

Ponta with multimodality in PerC[^]
It's day ten since we started with Ponta project. Things are as rough as we thought they would be. We have used OWI kit so far. It is closest to one used in practical robot and industries. I wanted to avoid Lego at all costs. Arduino gives me better flexibility than Lego. One more problem I faced with it is integrating two cameras. I want to fit a camera in the robot and other might be used for remote control. So I did a little work to get two camera's working simultaneously with the interface.
So at second week Ponta has started responding to voice, face ( head ) movement and hand gestures. The response so far is not really outstanding and lot of polishing and filtering is required at this stage to get a clean nice response from the robot. However seeing it responding to all modalities is still a great fun.
There is one thing though! Ponta is not yet detecting and recognizing objects. I want it to recognize spoons, tea pot and so on. I want it to identify and get the things of it's own rater than waiting for me to give command.
So I would work with object detection. I am not sure if the SDk provides object recognition! If it does not, then I will use simple k-nearest neighbor classifier rather than using something like SVM. KNN will save time. If detection is perfect, recognition shouldn't be any problem.
I would appreciate your critics and suggestions.

So, who all when sat at their desk while drinking tea/coffee or other beverage and typing on the keyboard, sits with the drink between their arms and works round the drink to reach the keyboard?
This is a more efficient placement of mug, as when you want to drink, your hand simply comes towards you and picks up mug on the way, rather than having to reach somewhere else for it. It also means that when you reach for the mouse, the mug doesn't get in the way.
It does carry some inherent risk, as if you get distracted and swing round on your chair, it is possible to side swipe the cup.
I do believe the benefits outweigh the risks.....I have found that my natural keyboard to edge of mug distance is approx 6".
Just my useless obeservation of the day!

Personally I put it to my left, just next to the keyboard. I can't risk knocking it over, which I certainly will since I'm a two-finger-typing kind of guy

Off to my right, on a coaster, under my Globe. This ensures that it is to the right of my trackball, and so I can't "catch it" when transferring from mouse to keyboard or vice versa. I also means that I tend to lean back to reach for it, so I don't move liquids over or near the keyboard. (I've cleaned enough sticky, near-verminous keyboards thank you).
It's also a special mug: 425ml of brain juice, (3/4 pint in old money) plus it's double skinned stainless steel with a vacuum between the skins. It keeps liquid thought fluid at a comfortable temperature for around half an hour.

Coffee bah, I keep the red wine glass off to the right, it can never be mistaken for a mouse then (something that used to happen when I smoked, there is nothing more daft than a bloke scraping a cigarette packet round the desk wondering why the pointer won;t move on the screen.
The glass is kept well away from the keyboard so I consciously have go and take a sip, it has been known that the glass may be left in peace for hours if I have an interesting problem to solve.

To the left of the keyboard, I don't tend to drink anything but water nowadays(while working) and keep it in a screw top bottle(although I have never had an accident).
While on the subject of where we place things - anyone else change their mouse to the other hand once in a while?
