Well, the city of Lafayette, Indiana shut off our water earlier today because we had not paid, even though we had evidence of payment. It turns out that even though we had to go to the city hall and change our address in person, they did not update the online account number for us, and we actually paid into the old account. They found this and moved the money, but still didn't alert us NOR did they update the account number. We got no notices that our water would be turned off, and we had to fight them for a while to get it back on.
It seems someone in the city government didn't do their job, and that the IT infrastructure there is nonexistent.
We also have had issues with most other utilities here due to IT errors and complete technological ineptness.
I hate this place. There are over 200 excellent computer repair shops here, but it seems that no one can hire an IT guy that actually knows what they are doing! How counter-intuitive is that?!?
