So we got invited to a Burns do in SG, kilts, haggis and black tie. I'm a geek, I don't know what the f*** a black tie event is, someone said you need to wear a suit and a black tie!
bullsh*t, you need a dinner suit/tuxedo that is black, a bow tie thingy, a cummerbund (bloody silly thing on a big fat bloke) a white shirt and a really shiny shoes. So $250 for the suit and $160 for a tailored shirt (they don't do big in SG) plus $160 for the dinner, it is a bloody expensive dinner. Oh yeah and a pair of cuff links to go with the dammed silly shirt!
SWMBO got a right ear full for accepting this particular invitation!

I bought my DJ about 25 years ago as I was attending 4-5 black tie events every year and it was costing around £30 to hire the kit.
Still got that suit, it's still in good nick and it's paid it's £500 over many-many times.
