I know some Dutch, and the second second language is always eadier to learn, French was a long struggle, German is relatively easy though being so close to ENglish, and the pronunciation is way easier.
But yeah, I have 6 month contract, I hang about in bars; it is a free German lesson after all!, and with my Learn German in tree Months, I am well equiiped!

There are certain key combinations I seem to always get backwards, and sometimes have a space in the wrong place. I particularly seem to like the word hte.

It is nyet as hard than Yo thank. OK it is nyet perfekct, but it is nyet yet as bd! Myabe soon I cann introoduce1 a Beer...
1) And that was your first pun in german. vorstellen, literally, could be understood as "put in front of".
Not bad, really!

*be*stellen - of course!
For some reason, didn't consider that and wondered what he actually wanted to do wiht (or to) his beer.

You are right, it is bestellen, it is the same in Dutch, god knows why I chose voorstellen.

YOu must be really short, because according to Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_height[^]) the average German height is 5'10", or 5'11.5" between 18 and 25. Average White American height is 5'10.5" so really not much difference. The tallest white males are from the Dinaric Alps.

Like I said I am 6 ft 4", so no, not short.
Perhaps it is just all the guys in the office, because they are all tall.

I have been in offices like that. Normally I am a lot taller than almost everyone I work with but I have been places where there are several people a lot taller than me. Noticed that in Denver. I have been in Southern Germany and Austria, and people seemed taller than average in the US. Of course good posture makes a big difference.

Fixed the german for you.
I was able to understand it, but most of it sounded really really Dutch.
And the German "vorstellen" means "introduce" in english, not really the "bestellen" (En: "order") you supposedly meant.

Yeah, I am struggling to lose the Dutch, accent and spelling. The problem is it is SO close to german is is really hard.
And yes, I didn mean bestellen.
Thanks for correcting me, it is the best way to learn.
Actually some of my Flemish friends are from the Limburg regions, and they told me their local dialect uses 'Ich heb gegeten vie een varken', instead of 'als een varken', so yeah, good tip, I will remember this one!
I was a bit unsure of 'Ich dankt', I wanted the past tense, not the past perfect, so what should it be then in the past tense, Ich dacht? (As in 'I thought' and not "I have thought')

You are welcome, was no Big Deal to correct The spelling.
Present: ich denke -> I think
Past: ich dachte (you were pretty close with your suggestion) -> I thought
Past Perfect: ich habe gedacht -> I have thought
Hope ist helps you.

I was reading about the attitudes in Europe from PewResearch when I found a couple of gems.
At the bottom[^] of the first page - Who's trustworthy arrogant and compassionate.
Everyone thinks the Germans are the most trustworthy ones, except the Greek, they believe it's the Greek.
Next gem is the fact that the Italians find themselves least trustworthy. I believe they are selfaware.
And the Poles have put Germany on top in both lists.
The Least Arrogant and Most Compassionate lists are almost identical, having their own country on top in both lists, effectively proving them all wrong on the Arrogance. Kudos to the Czech!
Germanys is the least compassionate country in all but two countries, Germany and France, obviously. They believe it's Britain.
Last years survey also had a similar gem, "Who's the most hardworking" and everyone answered Germany, except for the Greeks who answered the Greeks.
I have a feeling that the Greeks might suffer from bad insight, alternatively everyone else are wrong.

Of course these things are hard to call and the results say more about those voting that the results.
I note the Scandanavians stayed out of the votes though.....

If I had to name a country capable of runnig Europe today I would name Germany. Regardless of the past, they run a tight ship; no minimum wage, price control, no borrowing, low inflation...
The south of Europe is a joke in comparison. Problem is they cant devalue....

True, their economic policy is the reason they are doing so well. I wish the others would realize that.
And the fact that the south can't devalue adds insult to injury.

On the one hand yes, on the other the very cheap euro interest rates have encouraged many southerners to buy German products...

That IS the problem.
If you do not have a consistent govt borrowing policy you can not have a common euro bond. And therein lies the problem....

There's yet another reason they're doing so well. They're decentralized. Think about it, it's totally swarming with medium sized towns all over the country, but no cities like London or Paris.
I read an article once on why that was a reason, I'll try to find it again.
