Greenpeace protesters climbing the Shard[^]
Now I have a problem with Greenpeace, I have had since I was thrown out of one of their meetings when I was 16 by a hippy in a crap jumper for daring to argue with them.
I'd like to draw your attention to the following line in the above story;
Quote: "We'll try to hang a huge art installation 310m up that will make Shell think twice before sending their rigs into the Arctic.
Really? An art installation is going to make shell think twice about doing something?

Ask a Greenpeacer what he would suggest as an alternative to oil and he will have no answer.

of course he will, wind power (just ignore those cold winter days when the wind doesnt blow) wave power (enough for a 3 bar fire in at least 5 homes) solar (just dont mention the rare earth metals needed or the polution the mining of them causes or the fact that it would take covering the UK in them to replace 1 power station)

Ah I don't think that's fair... I think the alternative energies have their purpose in supporting the power grid. I just don't believe that one can rely on them solely.

I've just done a quick calculation.
Area of United Kingdom - 243,610 km2
Area of a Solar Panel - 1 m2
So that's 243 billion panels.
Each panel produces a maximum of 0.2KWH, so we'll give them only 10% capacity, that's 0.02KWH/panel
0.02 x 243 billion = 48.6 GWH
That's around 4 nuclear plants. Just saying.

My elder sister went through a phase in the late 60's and early 70's when she hated anything that involved the police and anything to do with them. I asked her who her first phone call would be too if she got home and found she'd been burgled. Not surprisingly, she too had no answer.

I had a similar phase, being a long haired chap, I long ago discovered that there's f**k all point calling the police for anything. I'm more likely to get arrested than listened to.
For example, a couple of years ago I got knocked off my bicycle. In the heat of the moment I hit the car, causing a (very) minor dent. End result - I got charged for criminal damage, while driver got sod all. That's in spite of having several witnesses who described his driving as dangerous.

I saw that documentary on TV a while back about the dangers cyclists are exposed to on London's roads. It's not surprising that a number of them wear helmet cameras to record incidents on the road. I feel keenly for them as it's the congestion on the roads that stopped me from cycling again.

Looking at the picture of them brings two things to mind:
1. The fresh wind up there should help dissipate the unwashed aromatics they take with them. Pity about the poor buggers downwind of them.
2. The pussies are replete with climbing paraphernalia. If they want to climb buildings and earn respect they have to aspire to this[^] bloke, the French Spiderman.

This always confused me about the left. Once (and only once) I went on a demonstration when the Israelis started that nonsense in Gaza a few years back. I went because the missus wanted to go, and I wanted to make sure I was with her in case something kicked off. OK, I didn't agree with what Israel did, but I've yet to see a demo that actually achieves anything so it seems pointless, if I wanted to put the effort in to change stuff I'd go into politics. Anyhoo, we got there, so what would a sane organisation do? It would make it's point clearly and strongly. What did I see? Several loosely affiliated causes all vying with each other, and slogans about every cause under the sun. WTF does Cuba have to do with Israel attacking Gaza other than in a broader woolly it-is-all-connected sense or a tinfoil-hat it's all caused by American Imperialism. I'm also pretty certain as much as the LGBT alliance supports Palestine, Palestine would not support the LGBT alliance. Then we had some tedious "street theatre" which looked like a failing a-level arts project, that'll all really stick it to the IDF/Government/however it was all aimed at (still not sure).
OT, but the of the most disturbing thing was the police photographing everyone (which seems a real infringement of civil liberties). I think they have a picture of me in front of a Marxist banner which I just happened to be standing near. I'm roughly as Marxist as I am Fascist i.e. not at all.
