I'm loving England.

Not a programming question
Do any of of you recommend one? I evaluated SpreadsheetGear, and would use it if wasn't so pricey!

There's a number of vendors that have Excel products like that, and I evaluated them a couple years back.
http://www.gemboxsoftware.com/GBSpreadsheetFree.htm[^] is a link to the free version of a spreadsheet product. Their library not as well-featured as what the bigger vendors give, and the main purpose of their free library is to get you to upgrade to their paid library, but it's pretty decent anyway.

I haven't been able to find a competitor to SpreadsheetGear, so I can't comment on the others - but SpreadsheetGear is TOTALLY worth it.
Take a spare time job for a month, whatever it takes - if your product relies on spreadsheet functionality - whether that be reliably readining or writing XLS files, or having an actual spreadsheet view - it is totally 99.5%* worth the money.

Hey, so using http://www.surfulater.com/[^] (an awesome application written by our own Neville Franks it is commercial though but worth the modest price) I was able to effortlessly download the article pages and extract all the icon images in a matter of minutes. Total cake.
I'd offer the link to them right here but it's 45 megs for all of them and I don't really want a huge hit like that on my server. So if you want the icons email me using the little [email] link on this post and I'll get them to you. If you don't see them then shoot an email to codefrogATgmailDOTcom and ask for them. I'm happy to send you the link where you can download them.
If you happen to run a huge server that can handle the drain let me know and I'll let you share out the zip file.
Anyway, they are totally awesome images and with the right program (MicroAngelo) they can readily be made into any icon format you want. I believe there are many free icon makers that do it too.
Anyway, the only program I want to give a nod to is SurfULater and that's because it's a fellow members livelihood. The real purpose of my post is to say if you want them let me know.
DUE TO THE SIZE OF THE IMAGES: I went for the best compression money can't buy. I used http://www.7-zip.org[^] to do the ULTRA compression. So you may need it to get the images. Well worth the 800Kb download and the 10 seconds to install. 7-zip will change your computing life.

Uh, why?
And if these are images in the articles, they're (c) by the author.

If you read the thread you'd have seen the key that unlocks the door...
FREE
I'll save you the trip omniscient one: http://nerdbusiness.com/blog/5978-high-quality-icons-web-apps-rss[^]
I'll event go a step further:
This is beyond question the largest supply of free icons ever published in one article. With this exceedingly massive supply, your icon solutions for websites and Apps are pretty much endless! Ranging from file types to gadgets, Mac icons to Firefox orbs, RSS feeds and even race cars. Yes, even race cars. glyphlab stock icons
And all of them are free. Plus, the the benefit for you is that they have all been carefully (and tediously) organized. Each set contains only the largest size available for it's particular icon (so we don't have 10 different duplicates for every size) and is labeled with the package name & a link to the author's site where you can check out more of their work.
One final note: each of these icons are in .jpg format. Which means that if you are using them against white backgrounds they'll do fine, however if you want the uncompressed PNG's in their original transparent form, please visit the author's website listed for each set.
So to answer your question.
Why?: I'm not sure. I don't know why you do a lot of things. If you want them you are welcome to them.

FREE
You know, you and I just don't see eye to eye. It's interesting.
So, I copied your entire thread into notepad and searched for the word "free".
Nope. Not there.
And yes, I had read the whole thread too, because I couldn't figure out what you were really offering, haha.

Ah. Now where in the world was that link in your thread? I guess when you said "I was able to effortlessly download the article pages" I was thinking CP articles.

No problem (and I'm not the uni-voter on this thread either). I just truly was confused. Anyways, interesting link. It's rather easy to just hit "Save Page" and get all the JPG's without downloading a bunch of other software.
I do question though whether those icons really are free. I know a lot of those websites that offer icons do indeed provide a subset that are free, so hopefully all is good.

I knew you were not the voter. People who actually reply rarely vote. I also don't think that's your style and that's a compliment.
I agree with you about whether they are free. But in looking at the post he is very thorough in linking to the original sites, passing on the praise to the authors. I waited a full day before I posted because I figured if they were illegal they would have come down by now (or I hope so anyway).
I had no idea that IE would do what you say at all. I'll have to give that a try. I just didn't figure IE did anything all that useful so that's news to me.
The concern about the validity of the icons is further reason why I have not just posted the zip file. Right now I maintain control on who gets them and if I find out they are illegal I can notify all the recipients and explain the violation of the copyright. It's of course up to them at that point but doing it this way I can try my best to make it honest from top to bottom.

Marc Clifton wrote: You know, you and I just don't see eye to eye. It's interesting.
It's not interesting. It happened because I did 2 very stupid things. 2 things I will not ever repeat here. You responded in a way that was representative of the group here and frankly. I don't blame you at all. There was justification for your actions and I'm not even going to try and justify mine I'd be reaching, really reaching.
So we no longer see eye to eye. I accept responsibility for that and I know exactly why that is. To me there is no gray area here. I'm willing to forget it and move on but of course I would be. I'm the offender. All I can tell you is I won't be a repeat offender ever again. That is closed. I learned a lesson, a life lesson. The regret is all mine.
Of course we could look past that now. It's kind of your call and I respect that it's your call. I don't judge your call. In fact this post by me to you isn't even asking for a reply. I don't want to put that on you at all. I do want to confess my responsibility and that's about it.
I will level the field between you and I but I do not ask you to do the same. I don't expect it and I understand if you choose not to. I really do. So it is what it is but there is no mystery why we don't see eye to eye. It's a good reason and I own that. For the rest of my life I own that.

I actually don't. But many here (I'm not saying Marc is one.) bite and don't release. So I have to do certain things, certain ways in order to get the past to fade away and be gone.
I had a chat with my wife a few weeks ago about how serious I take things. I had a major duh moment and now I look at each moment for what is good in that moment. I look for the best things. I drag my kids around behind me and I make them laugh and see the world as a fun place and I try more than anything to just live in the moment.
I've been watching a ton of 'Dog Whisperer' episodes featuring Cesar Milan and he has an incredible view of people. This country has messed up dogs because it has messed up people. I totally see it. We just got a dog and 'living in the moment' is everything to dogs. It should be to people to. Cesar is confident and polite in every situation and he 'owns his space' completely. His philosophy is so simple and so affective for providing balance to both people and animals. I bought it the moment I saw it and every day I discover new ways to make my life a lot more balanced.
Less time here has been huge. But honestly there is a rift between Marc and I. Marc has done things for me he didn't have to do. He showed a long time ago he cared. That means something to me. I'm going to show him respect. But I'm not going to live in the past. I'm living in the now and I think I just did my final act of burying the past and it feels good.
It's time to live in the now and I'm going to live it to the fullest and that's such a simple philosophy.

That's an excellent tv show. I have always hated dogs until I watched that show, now I hate the owners of those dogs. For every yappy annoying barking dog a neighbor owns I now *know* for a fact the dog doesn't at all have to be that way.
I wish that every dog owner would take an interest in their dog and watch that show, even a couple of episodes and they would (should) come to realize their dog's behaviour is a complete reflection of their own.
I'm not a dog owner but I find that show fascinating every time I see it. Too bad it's buried on the obscure national Geographic channel, it should be broadcast in primetime on broadcast tv over the summer. One summer of that and I bet the international dog hassle level would go down tremendously.
