I read in a couple of places while doing my research before buying the new tyres that rotating the wheels reduce effectiveness in an emergency situation. The garage I took my car to confirmed that they don't recommend it either for the same reason.

Added bit of ridiculous information:
Just be glad you don't have to fund the tyres for this thing[^]. Our neighbour's brother has one for his contracting firm and the cheapest tyres he could find were £2000 a piece. The mowers for it alone are about £120K, and last year the gear box went (luckily under a perpetual warranty), the guys from Claas turned up and said they'd need a bigger lifter (they'd brought a Manitou like thing). When they took the gearbox out it was 2 tonnes and £90K.
It's an awesome thing to watch up close, especially at night when you just see this shape pushing a massive flood of light in front of it.

that is why tire rotation is recommended every 3,000 to 5,000 miles - so they all get even wear [^].
I just had two new tires put on - replacing two that managed ~45,000 miles. In the past I've gotten much higher mileage for a pair of tires. Local dealers here offer road hazard insurance which takes care of normal usage damage for the life of the tread. A few years ago, I had one tire that had a nail go thru the side wall which meant it was not repairable - they gave me a new tire for free - they didn't even do a pro-rating on the old tire (ie % tread left discount). The damaged tire was at least two years old.

Interesting, I've seen advice to the contrary. While it does help with evening out the the wear. It apparently causes problems in emergency situations.

I got 80K miles on my last set, and even had tread left. I'm looking to beat that with my current set.

On my last car, I had a set that managed 90K and almost 6 years - steel belted blackwalls

" Enterprise Program - $299 USD This program is for developers who are creating proprietary, in-house applications for iPhone and iPod touch. A company size of 500 or more employees as well as a Dun & Bradstreet Number (DUNS Number) is required for Enterprise program enrollment."
So, what is a Dun and Bradstreet number ? Apple are making it very hard for us to deploy our app. The general license lets us deploy to up to 100 devs outside of the app store, and deploying ourselves with the Enterprise program is only allowed if we have 500 employees, etc.

my guess: Dun & Bradstreet (D&B) provides a D-U-N-S Number, a unique nine digit identification number, for each physical location of your business.
D-U-N-S Number assignment is FREE for all businesses required to register with the US Federal government for contracts or grants.

It's a number that identifies your company and it lets other companies check your company's financial standing. They're free to get - just contact D&B. They'll try to sell you some credit building stuff, too. I got a number a few years back. Seems like the last time I had to provide it was when buying a code-signing certificate.

WHAT THE f***?
You mean Apple is telling you who you may sell your iPhone application to?

yes, it's all very tightly controlled. Right now I have an app and cannot get it to deploy except via the main dev box. Nightmare.

AFAIK, the dev kit uses XCode on Mac OS X, so he must be using a Mac of some sort.

I thought the same too, until I read an interesting article (I don;t remember the link) about mobile device development. Apparently the other vendors aren't much better, in terms of what it takes to sign up for the program, or to actually distribute the apps. All them (according to the article) require code signing your app, and a number of other restrictions/rules as well. Apparently not that different from what goes on when you do game development for video game consoles and want to distribute your games. So they all suck
I guess one of the current differences is how completely idiotic Apple is being regarding the SDK NDA. For that they deserve to be roasted over a slow fire. The rest seems to be just par for course in the industry. We are pretty spoiled when it comes to PC development (at least on Windows)!
Personally I am surprised everyone puts up with it.

That's what I would think too, but according to the article, that basically how it works for other mobile platforms and video game consoles (PS3, Xbox360, Wii).

D&B is simply a credit rating service for companies.

everyone is basically right. D&B are a credit reporting agency for companies, entries are optional unless you do business with the federal government of the USA, then it is required. I have one, well, actually two, one as a company, one as an individual.

So, in IE, Gmail reports a server error and tells me gmail is down but assures me my mail is safe. In Firefox, it says the server is taking too long to respond ( actually, this could be my ridiculous firewall ). Yep, my insane firewall blocks FF by default and doesn't tell me when it tries to run ( as it is supposed to ).
Now FF has the same issue.
"We’re sorry, but your Gmail account is currently experiencing errors. You won’t be able to use your account while these errors last, but don’t worry, your account data and messages are safe. Our engineers are working to resolve this issue."
Interestingly, my iPhone is working fine, so I assume it's the web interface that is broken.

Now that's useful link to keep around! IMAP usually works as well when the web version goes down, but I don't keep Thunderbird up to date, so I have to retrieve months of emails!

Yeah, I'm getting "Oops...a server error occurred and your mail wasn't sent..." messages from FF. I'll try it in IE.

Whew! Seems like it's back up again now. Gmail and the internet! When they both go down, I'm dead in the water.
