What is with all the terrible hand offs? this year? Both US teams dropped the baton yesterday, the GB men's handed off to far out of zone. Crazy.

I suspect there is more at work here. It will eventually come out that the Chinese have doctored the batons so that some are 'stickier' than others. Clearly this was an attempt to manipulate the results.

On closer inspection it turns out that the batons used were actually the female chinese gymnasts.

There was an enormously powerful electromagnet controlled by the Chinese, the GB batons had neodymium magnets in them - it was just a case of hitting the switch at the right time

One of my favorite movies is Stick It which discusses how hard judging is in gymnastics. It's actually really funny and has a killer soundtrack.
At the end the girls fix the winners by choosing who is the best and everyone else scratches.
I was watching last night and guess who won the uneven bars? Gold medalist Nastia Liukin playing herself. The movie takes place in Texas; they must have shot it there because she lives there.
I didn't catch any other names but next time it's on I will watch.

looking thru the credits, I recognized Carly Patterson who was on the US Team in Athens and won the Gold in the all-around. The were dozens of girls listed as "IG Classic / Neutrogena National Gymnastics Championship Gymnast"
Bart Connor is also listed...

cool. I had two daughter gymnasts, though not at that level. still some of the commentary is applies.
I have three sons who play ice hockey. They go out on the ice for 10 hours/week to get ready for games that are 60-90 minutes long (depends if things get stupid).
My daughters would practice for 12-20 hours/week. Every couple of months, thew would get their chance to show their stuff:
beam: 3 minutes bars: 1.5 vault: 15 sec? floor: 2 minutes
total: 7 minutes!!!!!!
That's it. Nothing against the hockey players (or football...) but gymnasts are in their own league.

Wow sounds brilliant
In the article: Previous wireless power systems consisted basically of firing lightning bolts from sending to receiving units.
Sounds safe

Yeah I saw the part about "...basically firing lightning bolts..." and thought that was pretty funny.

Yeah I agree with you I'm not sure I want the extra waves in the air irradiating everything anyway. But it seemed pretty odd to me that Intel came up with it??
