OK - I've just finished watching this. There was a lot of hype surrounding this when it was released, and I have to say; What a rampant pile of steaming doggy poo this was. I've seen scarier kiddies TV programs. When will directors realise that "clever" tricks like shaking cameras don't actually make up for a crappy story line?

This is one of the reasons I rarely buy movies I haven't seen before. Too many mediocre movies being made, so the changes of you picking up a random movie, and actually enjoying it are rapidly approaching zero. With new releases priced $15 and above the risk benefit analysis suggests not buying.

I knew from the first teaser trailer it was gonna be a turkey.
An Alien Blair Witch yelled out from the trailers, so obviously I didn't waste my money.
I would rather watch a documentary on the history of streetlamps.

Don't. The producers of Cloverfield will probably run with this one. I've produced scarier items in the toilet bowl than this film. One for the "Arggh. Blind me now please." pile.

I did go to the cinema to watch this movie, but can't really comment about it. I felt a little queasy after the few minutes because of all the shaky camerawork, closed my eyes for a second. Next thing I know, I woke up to watch the end credits roll.

Are you sure this was not related to the 13 Gins and tonic you quaffed before going to the cinema?

I don't think so, but it could have been the 15 tequila shots I had with lunch.

So the general consensus is that Cloverfield bites and fails to deliver on all accounts. So, the question is:
What movie have you all seen recently, we'll stick to horror type films (not slasher, aka Jason Does Freddy Kruger) that was good?

I can't remember any good horror movies in English language recently, but I've seen some good East Asian ones.
R-point, The Host, Shutter, Audition, Tale Of Two Sisters to name a few.

If they have sub-titles, it's all good, as far as I'm concerned.

Watchable horror/thriller movies:
- Outpost (2008) (not to be confused with 'the outpost') - Dog Soldiers - Mutant Chronicles - 28 Days Later - 28 Weeks Later - 30 Days of Night - Doomsday (not 2012) - Hellboy 2
...and one comedy (which I don't usually go in for):
- Idiocracy

I just tried to watch 30 days of night, via ON-Demand, the other night (it was all 7 show strung together, or something), and after 30 mins, the damn thing stopped ...
I'm not sure if I saw the entire show, if it's actually only supposed to be 30mins or what.
But what I saw was good.

Seems to be par for the course for me these past 2-3 weeks.
I'll have to try again tonight, if I ever leave the office.
