Neat trick of the day. I just noticed that a ZIP file acts like a normal folder on any submenus on the Windows 7 start menu; that is, it displays a popout menu when moused over.

But does it act like a normal folder in Explorer? Can you drag files from it straight to an ActiveSync Explorer window? Can you save a file from Word straight into a Zip file?

Dunno about word, but I've opened/edited/saved files in a zip using textpad in XP using the zips as folders option.

2x12=24
1x12=12
0x12=18

Finally Windows has caught up with where RiscOS was a decade and more ago with archives.

Do you use a compressed volume in Windows?
It has been around since MS drove Stack and Double Space out of business.
It is a little better then storing in a zip file, as it is totally transparent.

Not that I can tell. Normal Explorer windows work fine though.

or, really, any of the Norton Commander clones, has always done that.
Plus you have the benefit of twin panels for easy copying/moving between locations.
Another thing I recently learned is that GMail does not allow ZIP file attachments. I like to send myself email from the office to home and back, so this is kind of a big PITA.
I renamed the extension to PIZ, and Google is happy to send it. With Total Commander I press Ctrl+PgDn and it goes right in, regardless of the extension.
I don't think Windows has caught up to that.
I know it hasn't caught up to the other 397 awesome things TC can do.
