The wife and the father in law have both had a look. My FIL is very good at classical Arabic & he had difficulties.

First Picture:
The Writing on the right hand side: My wife thinks there are two decorative symbols (a crescent and a line, but they look like the Letters "R" & "A" to me) after that is written "Ma'an" there is a Ma'an in Jordan, there used to be another somewhere else but it could also be "raama'an....". The only word we could make out fully was the last one on the top line "Al a'lim" = "The knowledgable". I think the word above the star at the bottom is "Allah" but the wife disagrees and she is most likely to be right

Second Picture is probably the Shahada, the script is Kufic:
[Foo] = Missing:

[La ilaha]
illa [allah]
[M]ohhammed
[Ra}sul all[ah}

Translation (approx), trying to keep which bits are missins
[There is no god]
but [God]
[Mohamed]
(is the)* [Pro]phet (of)* Go[d]
* = Contained in the inflection of the Arabic, these "extra" words are needed in English. Also "god" means any god God could also tranlate as "The Only God", again this is an difficult to translate satistfactorily due to the diffences between English & Arabic

As for where, we can't tell Ma'an is a possibility. The FIL thinks the coins is old, it is similar to coins minted under the Umayyad Caliphate ()[^]
