Jquery is best, Chris. It has cleaner abstraction model, elegant DOM manipulation and lucrative plugins. No doubts in that.
Our app uses a rich combination of High Charts which keep updating based on user operations in the screen. We have a rich interface in FF, Chrome, Safari, IE9 but the page is literally frozen between the AJAX calls and painting of the high charts parsing very simple JSON objects.
Trying to do a layout like that with divs is really flaky. Some time ago, I tried to create a website without any tables for layout ... I gave up and used a table for a header when I needed a section in the upper right and the vertical space to be reliable.
Not necessarily. As long as the pages are standardized things should be looking stable and good, unless and otherwise we invite trouble by accommodating non-compliant user-agents (aka) browsers into the group as well.
The mild grey is a little too mild, it appears hazy on my screen, probably because this is a 5 year old LCD. I guess all these colours look crisper on a Mac ( where I presume the dev work took place ) but it's like peering through misted glass on my PC.
Even the articles are a little harder to read, maybe it's just the new feeling. On longer articles, the middle sections of the page is all text in the middle with white all round, it's kind of seamless and so far, monotonous. The font looks good but is harder to read as it's thin and dainty. I'll eventually get used to it, but this is the only chance I'll get to gripe about it.
Agreed. It also takes up more room on the screen, so I had to decrease the size to get the same info on the same screen. The links to The Lounge and other Forums don't show whether they been selected already or not.

I think I'll have to agree with Leppie (I think it was he that said): I don't instantly hate it. That's good(!), given my feelings towards the Windows 8 UI (and don't get me started on the crippled API a.k.a WinRT - that truly is Win32's idiot brother).
Welcome back. I think that the hamsters have staged another coup.

Why is common sense not common?
Never argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level where they are an expert.
