There is a reason for that.

In the UK there is an agency that is mobilised when children are abducted like this.

Around 220,000 children go missing in the UK each year, the vast majority taken by parents or someone else with a claim on them, or are older and take themselves off, mostly from care or broken homes.

When someone goes missing the best chance of finding them is in the first few hours, especially when a young child gets taken by someone who intends them harm.

Therefore this special agency co-ordinates the media and the police at local and national levels, and all information considered useful to be in the public domain (areas, vehicles, people, clothing, etc) gets flooded out very early on.

This is often a useful thing to do.

The unintended consequence of this of course is that people consume a lot about this particular child and then form an attachment to the story so the media keep feeding their interest and it becomes a self perpetuation unstoppable force for a while.
Every man can tell how many goats or sheep he possesses, but not how many friends.
