The thing I find most peculiar about the entire story is that you thought it was a bomb because he was a black man. In America this wouldn't be the case.
Funny how that works.

I didn't think it was a bomb because he was a black man, I was suspicious because he left as we pulled into a station.
Had it been an Asian man then I would probably have been more concerned.
Such was the media perception in the UK at the time.
There have been quite a few black would be bombers in recent times, and a few white ones too.
Every man can tell how many goats or sheep he possesses, but not how many friends.

pffft. White people don't act like that. Bombs are crazy
We are serial killers, snipers, and "go postal".

stuff like this always surprises me. I was commuting to London daily during te height of the irish bombing campaign. If I saw someone walk away from a bag, i would stop them and ask if it was their bag. If I saw an unattended bag, i would report it immediately - but THOUSANDS of people would ignore the situation, or just nudge each other "oohh Ethel, there's an unattended bag!"
Seems many brits would rather be blown to kingdom come than cause a scene!

I would tell someone if they were leaving the bag. about 50% of the time I would report it if it was left.

In India, if you leave your bag unattended, you lose your bag.... so we do not have this kind of problem here...

Well that is one problem a spate of bag bombings clears up.
You can leave your bag anywhere you want on the public transport system these days and it'll still be there when you get back.
Might have an army robot blowing it up if you're too long, but it'll still be there.

Yes, but when you want to lose your bag that's fine.

What if I promise not to smell them?
I was thinking more along the lines of xenophobia...
