Time to panic? No.
Time to give up? Yes. Shutting down.

I just had a long chat with my employees of eight years and past along the new. We are closing shop. While we've had our moments, the last several years have been a steady downward spiral. Between the massive tax burden we're under and trying to compete with low-cost (low-quality) sweat shops over seas (just west of China btw...) there used to be only one remaining incentive for success - to send my kids to college in comfort.

Now - with Obamacare looming and a line that goes 'round the block of 'citizens' with their hands out pleading with the Gov't, "Please give me even more because you all owe me" and a seemingly endless list of "Programs" designed to sponsor the super-lazy - I see no reason to continue trying to succeed.

Thank you Codeproject for giving my crew countless sources of inspiration. I wish you all the very best of luck and success wherever you are able to find it.

Not in time for this Christmas season but maybe next year's. I want two of these [^]

From the Oct 31st Ryno CEO's blog post:

Quote:
We are continuing on a path with the limited funds we have to have early samples of the RYNO UEV (Unidentified Electric Vehicle) shipping by late April 2013 just in time for summer. Full production will be ramping up later in 2013.

The new UEV will be designed to look more like the original bike in all our videos. The red show bike on the web site was designed to be a street legal version but since then we have moved back onto the sidewalk and bike paths we need a lighter weight and more crowd friendly look. Plus it allows us to pack 4 HP of brute power into the wheel since we don’t have to meet the limitations to get on the street as a scooter or eBike.

We have doubled the battery capacity to 24 amp hours and will double it again later in 2013 as we get our cutting edge battery supplier on-line. The bike will have twin pull out batteries to allow them to be changed in thirty seconds and carried easily. Top speed is limited to 12.5 MPH, range may be about 25 miles. Trust me with 2,000 watts of motor power, this thing will climb a wall. We’re also still holding to a target retail price of $4,500.

You want a stupid-looking scooter that goes 12.5 MPH?

Rock on. You go for it.
GeneralRe: RYNO UEV (Unidentified Electric Vehicle)memberClifford Nelson7-Nov-12 6:01
I can be opened up to 25mph. Gee, that is opened up? The 50cc class legally go 35mph (depends on the state as to if it needs to be licensed, and need a m/c license). Of course I had a Derbi 50cc that I was able to get 70mph in colorado. Unfortunately on back roads that went up and down could only get up to 45 mph. A little slow for the traffic, unfortunatley.

"Half the bike, twice the fun"

Top speed 12.5 MPH - so you can't get out of the way of that routemaster bus...
Range ~25 miles - so you can't get to and from work without a recharge (assuming you have time to get there and back at 12.5 mph in the first place)
$4500 WTF | :WTF: A push bike is cheaper, quicker, recharges on bacon butties and you probably look a lot less stupid riding one...

My average speed to get to the train station by car is 20km/h i.e. 12.5MPH on a good morning. It is only a 10km trip to there. If the price drops, I could see myself get one.

Or I could just get myself a normal bike a and add a DIY motor to assist me...
GeneralRe: RYNO UEV (Unidentified Electric Vehicle)memberJ4amieC7-Nov-12 4:20
Or, you could just buy a normal scooter.

It has 2 wheels (double), goes 30MPH (double), doesnt look f***ing stupid (priceless) and costs much less (half).
GeneralRe: RYNO UEV (Unidentified Electric Vehicle)memberClifford Nelson7-Nov-12 6:03
You can take this one into the office with you, not something you would want to do with a scooter.
GeneralRe: RYNO UEV (Unidentified Electric Vehicle)memberRage7-Nov-12 4:31
An eBike is your friend. Goes up to 45km.h-1, e.g. 10km would be something like 20 to 25min. Helps you stay fit since the motor only "helps", and don't "replace".
Plus you look totally awesomely cool on some of them[^].

The trouble is, that that is your Average speed - in a vehicle with a top speed of 100mph+, and thus almost certainly better acceleration than this RYNO. A top speed of 12.5 means you can't get out of the way of mopeds - and it probably takes a long time to get there!

Imagine that you're riding down the street (at the amazing topspeed of 12.5 mph) and a kid runs out in front of you.
What happens when you brake really hard?

I can see two scenarios:
  • You smack your face straight into the tarmack
  • The Ryno Accellerates to make you lean backwards so that it can brake hard without breaking your face. In this process you break the kid instead.
I hope it gets forbidden on public roads.
People say nothing is impossible, but I do nothing every day.

Already have that issue on quite a few vehicles, and they seem to have fixed that, including a wheel chair that can run on two wheels (friend of mine has one): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IBOT[^], and the Segway (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Segway_PT[^]). Have to say, seems to me one wheel would be better.
