an old movie, like the first Star Wars, is it better on blu-ray?
No, because Lucas hacked it to pieces and made it crap.
More seriously, if the movie was restored, rescanned and compressed by someone with talent, the Blu-Ray can look stunning. Unfortunately, sometimes the Blu-Ray version is nothing more than an upsampled DVD. Compilation Blu-Rays may compress the video rather excessively.
I have a few of my favorite movies on both DVD and Blu-Ray and they look better on Blu-Ray, but they are relatively new films and they rescanned from the original cut.
I do know that I do notice the better quality, and it does make it nicer to watch. However, my collection is all files, and I keep the size of the movies to 1.5 GB. If they are too large, starts getting too large for my drive, which is a 4 tb. Maybe when I go to an 8tb I might increase the quality. It is good enough, and seems to be better than old TVs. I know I was at the LVH (Las Vegas Hotel, use to be a Hilton) and was watching a football game on a flat panel tv. The quality was horrible. Think they have not upgraded thier distribution system in forever. Hilton probably was not making any money on the hotel, and now does not even have the resources of Hilton to update.
Decided to check out BitsDujour and found Aneesoft YouTube Converter available for free. Thought this was worth trying and signed up for it. The bastard thing has sent me a key that ain't working.
If they don't want to give it away, don't put it up as so.
"I controlled my laughter and simple said "No,I am very busy,so I can't write any code for you". The moment they heard this all the smiling face turned into a sad looking face and one of them farted. So I had to leave the place as soon as possible." - Mr.Prakash One Fine Saturday. 24/04/2004
I think computer viruses should count as life. I think it says something about human nature that the only form of life we have created so far is purely destructive. We've created life in our own image.
If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.-John Q. Adams You must accept one of two basic premises: Either we are alone in the universe, or we are not alone in the universe. And either way, the implications are staggering.-Wernher von Braun Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.-Albert Einstein
The master of the art of living makes little distinction between his work and his play, his labor and his leisure, his mind and his body, his education and his recreation, his love and his religion. He hardly knows which is which; he simply pursues his vision of excellence in whatever he does, leaving others to decide whether he is working or playing. To him he is always doing both.
