GeneralPower outage [modified]memberwizardzz17 Dec '12 - 12:10
So today the power dipped in my building. I'm on the second floor of an older 15 story building. Does anyone keep a flashlight at their desk? It is extremely dark out, and if no auxiliary lights came on, I probably would have freaked out because, get this- The only light I have is a key-chain monkey with blue led eyes that screams creepy monkey screams when you use the lights. It already scares the sh*t out of me when it goes off on accident.

Anyways, power also dipped 4 miles away at the woman's place, so if it went out, it would be a real f***ing fun walk there. Screaming, blue-eyed monkey for 4 miles.

Update- here is a video someone made of the keychain. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A5HHkpPr4ag[^]

Why would someone make such a thing ? Why would you have one ?

I'd use my notebook for light, in that situation.

Smart phones nowadays have a flashlight app... my phone has two LEDs so it's pretty darn bright. The battery does get drained pretty fast with it but if I have to use it it's nice to have.

A parent (who obviously disliked me) gave my son one of those screaming monkey flashlights. He took great delight creeping up behind me when I was engrossed in playing HL2DM work and scaring the living bejeezus out of me.

I would imagine, though, that walking through an unlit city carrying one would ensure you were left alone Smile | :)

From the Records..

Ask me a question and I will reply with an idiotic, mostly sarcastic, and occasionally funny response.

I Rest my Case, and Don't forget, It was ME that switched off the lights in your area, just by sitting and thinking of a joke to play. I was acting on behalf of Santa.

Right, 4 Mile (one hour) walk. How did you get to your place of work in the first place. Your car would not stop due to a power outeage. The busses would not either.

What the f*** are you whinging about!
I'm just being Sarcastic.

Response:
I wrote this based on past experience. It's better to walk as long as it's not a blizzard.

Update:
I drove home, I could see scattered outages (some neighborhoods were dark, some billboards were off).
I got to a light and it went Live Free or Die Hard Started cycling through signals quickly, without a yellow light, scary stuff to drive through.

Here in Joburg they just switch off, or at best revert to flashing red == a four way stop. Then again, this happens extremely often, without the power even being off. Mad |

At my home desk yes, not at my work desk. But I'm on the ground floor, it's not that far to my car, which among the usual collection of lights a car usually has, I also have a portable light source in the trunk. Not exactly a flash light, but it's quite bright and has a handle.

Crikey! No flashlight but that little beast? For goodness sakes, man, they do make glow-in-the-dark condoms, you know! That should give you enough light to find your woman, even four miles away. Keep a couple in your desk drawer.

hehe... we have at home a small, plush monkey that makes that exact sound if you drop it on something hard or squeeze it... For a while there, my wife and I would sneakily lob it beside the other while they were concentrating on something... You are right - scares the bejebus out of you when you least expect it!!
