So, The Boy has a pal over to play, they're swimming in the pool, and the wife, and the pals parents are sitting outside chatting.

I am setting up the slipperery water slide The Boy got for Xmas, when both mums yell it "watch your head!"

I stood slowly, only to have a rainbow lorikeet land on my shoulder, and squeal into my ear!

The bird was a young one, and stayed with us, sitting on our hands, while we tempted it with seed (foolish move as they don't east seeds) and eventually ate some honey.

W were a little concernd as it seemed to unafraid that it may be a lost pet (I hate people hwho keep birds as pets) but, after about half an hour, we noticed another lorikeet (adult) appear in a nearby tree. I took the visitor over, Mum flew down, and they both flew off.

The youngster came back down 'to say goodbye' ten minutes later, then they flew off and haven't been seen since.

So nice to have a hands-on experience with a wild animal like that.

I know the feeling and makes me smile to see your story. About a year ago I came back to my car during the heat of summer and a humming bird was inside trying to get out through the windshield. When he saw me coming he started to panic and was trying to smash his way through the glass. I saw one chance and managed to grab him gently and pull him out of the car. I held my arm out and opened my palm and he sat there for a minute calming down (his heart just about jumping out of his chest) and then he flew off.

He came back a minute later, hovered back and forth in front of me for a few moments. I told him, "You're welcome!" and he flew off again.

No birds like that around Detroit, but I do get the occasional squirrel that will walk right up to you and beg for food. There's an old lady around the corner from me that hand feeds them peanuts all the time. So, because of her, my yard is full of buried peanuts and very friendly squirrels.
