Yeah, nook got the same prologue. I didn't see much point in purchasing it since I'm going to purchase the full book when it actually gets nook-ized.

I've been re-reading this series everytime a new book came out since book 7 when I read it for the first time originally. Needless to say, I am a huge fan of the series and I get something new out of it every time I read it, it is still a great work of fantasy and I would recommend it to anyone who is even slightly interested. I think the story could have been better if Jordan would have finished in say 6 books and then added the additional story arcs in other books that take place at the same time of the story but focused just on that story arc.
Mostly, I am saddened that there is this whole fantasy world with only one long story with a rich history that is hinted by names of songs and stories in gleemans' tales. It would have been awesome if Jordan would have been able to write additional stories that these songs and tales inspired.

"I also noticed that if the mouse is moving around on the element, a distortion appears as the mouse is moved, kinda like when a Romulan cloaking device disturbs space-time just before the Enterprise gets its ass kicked. As an aside, no matter how many times they see what they think is a distortion that could indicate a cloaked ship, they always fail to react in time. To be honest, I wouldn’t be at all surprised to find out that Kirk had A LOT of help coming up with the code that allowed him to rescue the Kobiyashi-Maru at the Academy."

And that's how defects should be raised if you want to engage developers.

If you want a fix fast, that will help make it so it is number one on the list.

Kirk turned in a Help ticket!?! Major loss of man points.

On the flip side, in the 80s someone filed a defect against a VMS operating system API, claiming 2000 should not be identified as a leap year. A Lounge post identifying the response can be found here[^]. Still makes me smile today.

I (like probably many of you, I hope) run a tame black hole as filing system and at times it has got me into trouble not being able to lay my hands on the wanted diagram/listing but at times it pays dividends like today, before the Hols we had a new Pick and Place machine delivered for assembly of prototype PCB's. This was found today and in setting up the thing we needed a way of transferring a 2meg(!) file over to the PC is an old Win95 box. I managed to find in the land of the lost (aka my desk draw) an old USB stick and driver CD. Spent a good fun two hours trying to set the darn thing up! Good day sent code off for customer approval, almost had RegEx scare (still trying to learn it, any advice?) now looking into why a graphics board is not behaving, Ahh the fun never ends....

Get a copy of Expresso [^] - it's free, and it examines, tests and generates Regular expressions.
Brilliant piece of software! Wish I'd written it...

I think my issue I am not totally aware of when RegEx can do, and when and how to use it properly, I have used it in a mashed way not quite properly. I really need a this is what it does, this is what it is good for, this isn't what it's good for, using it here will lead to a tri-county killing spree . I know this is not ideal place for this type of message.

There is an online tutorial here: http://www.regular-expressions.info/tutorial.html[^] or there are a number of books on the subject. O'Riely do a good one: http://shop.oreilly.com/product/9781565922570.do[^] and surprisingly for a computer related textbook, it's quite short at less than 400 pages...
They can do a lot - but it is very easy to use them in the wrong place, and force them to do things that can be better done in other ways. How can you tell which situation you are in? Difficult, and I suspect that experience and sticking your finger in the wind are about the only ways...

Maybe it was even on here, but I read the other day that a developer had a problem, so he decided to use RegEx.
Now he has two problems.
