I'm buying most of the meat we eat at a local farmer. It's always nice to be able to bring the kids and pet the animals before you buy them.
Today I wanted to buy some meat for a slow cooking stew, and I like to put a piece of bone in it for the taste.
But he stopped doing the nice little pieces of soup bone that I used to buy, because it ruins the saw a bit to fast and he doesn't want to buy another one for the purpose.
But if I saw it myself I could get it for free.
So, what do I do with a five pound marrow bone?
Anyone got any good recipe for making your own stock?
Any other Ideas?

Boil it. Add veggies and spices. There's really nothing to stock, and fresh like you plan to make is the absolute best! 
I recently bought a whole prime rib roast, and I'm looking forward to re-purposing the bones...

Yep - I do the same with chicken carcases in my slow cooker. Dump it all in, leave it there for 6 or 8 hours, strain and freeze.

Hmmm, I hadn't thought of using the slow cooker for that. Great idea! I usually toss everything in a big stock pot and let it simmer, but someone has to keep an eye on it. The crock pot can be safely ignored for days. Thanks!

Are we talking knuckle bones, leg bones, flat bones?
