... spells yoyo.

Seriously [like] I just got an e-mail from a company I previously interviewed with about two months ago.
The role was put on hold but has now been resurrected - similar money to the offer I have but a lot less travel.

As I sit here in my thermals and two jumpers, I'm not sure I wouldn't be tempted to take you up on the offer.

The summer eldest was born, temperatures staid over 40 for ages. It was a constant battle just to keep cool as we have no air-con. The coolest place in the apartment is the bathroom - it is totally internal - and sometimes we went in there just to relax.

We had a two month old feeding/shitting machine, so there was no 'relaxing'.

One incident we both fondly remember is arguing over who would do the ironing. The ironing board was in the bathroom and we both wanted to do it. Laugh |

If company number 2 really thought you were worth employing, they would have told you two months ago. As it is they are just trying to save money by not re-advertising the job. Do you really want to work for such an organisation?
One of these days I'm going to think of a really clever signature.

GeneralRe: Why oh why oh ... PinmemberNagy Vilmos11 Jan '13 - 1:31
They advertised the role and things went well but then they we're told to hold off all recruiting until the new year by the finance/budget/twat department. They now have a budget to hire me, plus two or three for my direct team, which was going to be a problem back in October.

So I will of course want a better offer [to take into account the to and fro] but I don't think it's that bad.

I'm a tough master. What is your capacity [in litres] for gin? If allowed tonic would your capacity increase or decrease? Where do you stand on lemon and/or ice? Can you be in work at 9am after a 2am finish?

If lemon and ice are allowed I might find it acceptable.

However, what makes me outright reject this offer, is the fact that the boss will finish and hour earlier and start an hour later than I normally do. That would in my opinion not count as a good working environment. I'd rather pass on this one. Poke tongue | ;-P

Zero!

That leaves everything for you and I think that would make me the ideal candidate Smile | :)

I am unaware of my Gin capacity, having never reached a point of wishing to stop.

Admittedly some time ago, my 21st Birthday lunch drinks at work included my having a pint glass containing the contents of one bottle of Tonic into which my friends and colleagues added Gin.

After a two hour lunch I returned 9with a replenished pint of G&T to the office - where my boss politely suggested I may like to go back down to the Jolly Gardner's and wait for the rest of the chaps. When they arrived my glass was sadly empty but shortly refilled and a damn good time was had by all (so I am told).

Nagy Vilmos wrote:

as mentioned, I see no limit, however I am a fan of the lightly toniced gin.

Nagy Vilmos wrote:

I don't mind a slice of lemon - Vitamin C is good for you.

I never stand on ice.

Nagy Vilmos wrote:

You don't make yourself clear. A 2am finish working or drinking Gin. If the latter, then, of course. If the former, then I can not foresee that (through any fault of my own) it would be necessary for me to work until 2am - that would suggest I was behind schedule which is totally unthinkable.

If course, I may have to do it to help out a colleague - but I would hope that that employee would suffer the consequences.

Regarding your recent domestic problems I would go for the second option. Nothings more important than family and it sounds like the second offer gives you more opportunity to be around.

Or perhaps, the first choice for the position that they selected has declined their offer and so it is now over to you, their next choice. In the grand scheme though, it doesn't really matter. The facts are that you have two offers right now. Use that to your advantage. Good Luck. Smile | :)

Negotiate.

Especially if you are going to turn down an offer. It doesn't hurt to request a better deal if your initial thought is to turn it down anyways. Worst that happens is they refuse then the result is the same if you turned it down. Maybe even better because then they conclude they couldn't meet your compensation needs rather than wondering about another factor. And maybe they agree, and at a minimum you might be able to leverage that with another job.
