I really like to see Netflix producing content, and seemingly high quality content. It puts pressure on networks and gives the opportunity for indie writers and producers to get noticed. Networks are dying a slow death, made obvious by the amount of low budget 'reality' or for better terms 'unscripted' shows pumped out. Distributors like Netflix are currently looking for shows to produce, and from what I understand, don't have the massive barrier to entry as networks do (who you know, who your agent is, etc).
Source: I went to a presentation and panel this week about getting shows or pilots produced and shopped around. It was an open call for initiatives by specific networks for specific show formats, so you can see what each place is looking for.
