Would viewing the linkedIn profile of a company's Executive Director a few days prior to an interview with the company be considered un-ethical?.

Certainly not. In fact, while I was doing some job searching a couple months ago, the first thing I would do was google the company and, if I got an interview, google the people who I was in contact with and review their LinkedIn profiles if they had one. That's the purpose of LinkedIn, and also, when I attended a workshop on job searching on the Internet, was one of the key websites (along with FaceBook, sigh) for learning more about the people.

And it goes the other way too. A majority of companies will google you to learn more about you, which is why it's so important to not just have an Internet presence, but if you have one, make sure it's professional (in the "corporate" sense with sites like LinkedIn and in a the "public" sense with sites like FB.)
