Article in NYTimes: "Unreported Side Effects of Drugs Are Found Using Internet Search Data, Study Finds [^]: video interview of John Markoff by Marcus Mabry which is part of the article: [^].
What's most interesting to me about this content is:
1. Microsoft researchers are involved.
2. Information about possibly negative drug-drug interactions may be spotted much more quickly using this kind of data analysis than through the current side-effect reporting system (if you can call it a "system").
3. The discussion of privacy issues by Markoff and Mabry in the accoompanying video: "anonymization techniques" etc.
yours, Bill
"Good people can be induced, seduced, and initiated into behaving in evil ways. They can also be led to act in irrational, stupid, antisocial, mindless, and self-destructive, ways when they are immersed in 'total situations' that impact human nature in ways that challenge our sense of the stability and consistency of individual personality, of character, and of morality."
