A 76 year old Argentine has just been unexpectedly Poped. He looks as shocked as anyone else. By all accounts he's a nice chap who likes to take the bus. His parents were Italian, his name is an umpronouncable mystery to me but he's going to be called Pope Francis. I can't believe that's Francis I, there must surely have been a Francis before but so far no one has confirmed or denied which Francis he will be.

It's definitely Francis the 1st. I was hoping for George Ringo the 1st, but there you go.

Well, we have already had half the successful version of the Beatles (twice). It's time for the other two to get their recognition.

There are several previous popes with the personal name Francesco, but this would be the first Franciscus (Primus) as a regnal name.

I don't know what that means in English but pedo in Spanish translates into something not very flattering.

OK. That's even worse than the Spanish version. I was trying to be a little respectful, but now never mind. Smile | :) (

That's very probably slanderous or libelous, I can never remember which way round that is. This one seems to be well respected and doesn't seem to be tainted by the scandals that were linked with the old one's. Do you have any evidence that he's ever been accuse of pedophilia or is this just a lazy cheap gag aimed at the Catholic church.

Really? Given the number of priests in the world (approx. 410K), and the relative minority who were actually pedophiles, isn't it time that people stopped suggesting the whole priesthood are pedophiles? It's just lazy stereotyping otherwise. It's no better than David Cameron linking pedophilia with homosexuality.

Citations please.

I'll take 5 stories from the last 3 weeks. That should make it easy for you.

Those don't actually link to stories. Just listing news sources isn't providing citations. As I said, 5 stories from the last three weeks please, and not five versions of the same story. Plus, given your assertion, these have to be new stories and not a link to the payout from the LA church. It should be easy enough for you to provide them.

Well no, homosexuals don't ALL have a role as morally upright keepers of the religious faith. Supposedly protectors of the very people they abuse.

While I agree it is a cheap shot I also believe the priesthood, any priesthood, that abuses is privileged position need to be castigated and vilified and the catholics are the worst offenders I know of.
