It's just that scott hanselman posted something which sounded like one of those cheap eye catching line one can see on the web "blablabl.. and you won't believe what he did next blablabla..."
That cracked me up so much that I have to use it everywhere now!
Normally there is a cheesy vaguely related follow up, as in, I bought 100 of them and made an igloo with alcoholic ice bricks?
But I will leave it to your imagination, juts like the original post! Maybe I did nothing?!
A police report says 24-year-old Amada Hall, of San Luis Obispo, California, climbed over one fence and almost got over the second fence encircling the giraffe enclosure at the Henry Vilas Zoo about 5:30 p.m. Saturday. A 2-year-old, 12-foot-tall giraffe named Wally gave Hall a lick, then turned and kicked her in the face.
The police report says she told officers she climbed into the exhibit because she loves giraffes.
I'm not sure where to even start with this. Where did this idea come from that learning to write a hello world program will teach you how to be an entrepreneur, let alone a programmer? Even tech entrepreneurs don't need to know anything about programming, they hire programmers for that, and they probably aren't going to be hiring grandma.
But somehow if we just get everyone to write apps we'll save the economy. I'd hate to be the poor bastard who has to try to show grandma how to use Eclipse.
This quote is fun:
"Writing computer code isn’t very hard. Anyone can learn"
Yeah. Anyone can learn to splint a fracture too, but that doesn't make them an orthopedist.
Most older people I know barely know how to turn a computer on and the last thing they want to do is learn how to program. If they wanted to learn they would have started a hell of a lot earlier in life.
Have you ever just looked at someone and knew the wheel was turning but the hamster was dead?
Trying to understand the behavior of some people is like trying to smell the color 9.
"Learning" isn't enough. I have a lot of knowledge that I am just no good at putting into practice (chess, tennis, swimming).
save the economy
Right, that's not going to happen. Let's consider that one million of us teach our one million grannies to code and we each produce a great new app -- and sell it for a dollar each, to each of the others. We each spend a million dollars and we each earn a million dollars -- we're all still exactly even. But the guv'mint takes twenty percent (for example). We pay granny half the net -- and the guv'mint takes twenty percent of that. When granny dies, she leaves us what's left -- and the guv'mint takes twenty percent yet again.
