I started programming 28 years ago on a TRS-80 Model I, progressing to slightly more powerful computers and advanced languages.
At the University of Southern California I resisted the call of computing and studied Mathematics and Economics instead, but still dabbled with C and took courses in that new fangled C++ technology. Several years later, I succumbed to my primal urges and began programming professionally in C++. I formalized my Computer Science interest with a Masters from the University of Colorado at Denver while I was working.
Due to commercial demand, I have written professionally in C, C++, C#, Ada, Java, JavaScript and Mumps. However, C++ is still my favourite. I have also indulged my control freak side and stepped into management where I have managed software development and professional services teams.
My non-professional interests are still in coding, where I tend towards AI type alogorithms and problem solving. I am also interested in making programming more accessible to children. I have written some prototype environments focussed on children's learning and am now waiting for my 3 kids to be old enough to test it.
