This thread is for you guys who own/wants to have a software foundation, please tell us your experience, advice or anticipation regarding this topic.

Put me in the "Want to own" category.
 
Seems like the majority of people I know in business do work for defense or are somehow employed as "consultants" to larger commercial firms. I know of no one who just gets work off of job postings on the net. Also it appears many businesses don't know what they need, so they bring in consultants such as the IBM teams who can sell software that is so large and unwieldy you must hire programmers just to maintain and configure the stuff.
 
It also appears many people who do web programming actually are resellers of tools, or "configuration managers" of tools that programmers develop deep in their basements. This seems like easy money.
 
I'm not very knowledgeable in this area. Any other helpers out there?
