Since you are reading this thread, tell me what you think about the screenshot available at http://www.developernotes.com[^]. Would you use it, what would you like to see included within this application. Let me know.

Ya I might use it with any usefull functions that I can carry from one project to the next. As for what would be a nice to have? Maybe a text description or some other form of Meta data on the code to help identify what it's used for and help with searches.
Other than that it's nice and simple  If it gets too complex it's a hassel to use and people tend not to use things if they make life difficult

Looks nice, but I'd use a sunken border for the text area and set the tab stop to 4 or something (default for most code editors). it wouldn't take me long to make a tiny hscroll bar!

Thanks Heath, I am actually re-writing some of the code base, for several reasons but I was thinking about making it intergrate into Visual Studio .NET. One thing I have been struggling with is highlighting the current line (as UltraEdit[^] does). Maybe I can send you what I have for some input?

I might use a tool like this if it were integrated with Visual Studio .NET. Questions that come to mind include:
What about naming conventions?
Since common constructs are typically adapted for specific types, unless you could parameterize the code snippets with types, I'm not sure how useful it would be. For example, something that created a type specific collection wrapper would be nice.
What will the affect of Generics be on this project? A common library of Generics might make some of these irrelevant.
Well, those are my random first impressions. Like anything else, I really couldn't know how much I'd use it until it was staring me in the face...

This is one reason why it isn't available right now. I am completly redo the UI portion so that it will work correct when integrated as a tool window in Visual Studio .NET. I created a quick demo using a TreeView in the tool window but I am not sure that is the best approach to go with since the screen real estate is so limited.

The application is designed to allow you to create your own language folders and then place whatever code sniplets into those sections as you see fit. There are no rules that state you need to follow one convention or another. Think of it as a set of programmers post-it notes, collected in an organized fashion.

Regardless of available frameworks, libraries, and programming languages I think developers find themselves saying "...how did I do that one thing...", whatever this is, the DeveloperNotes product should help them with this. I think it is user-friendly, but I wouldn't use it because I use a directory hierarchy to store my files. It is easy to search, is cross-platform compatible, and I can also have links to other directories so that I can store a file once, but have it appear in many different categories.
If you were able to integrate it into Visual Studio (someone already mentioned that) in such a way that resemebles the F1 feature, that would be cool.

Everything that happened yesterday went bad, from 8 o'clock in the morning till I went to bed. I considered rolling over and going back to sleep this morning to avoid this from happening two days in a row but have decided against that; for now at least. I guess we are all bound to have a bad day here and there, however sometimes I think the bad things that are suppose to happen to me get collected and dumped strategically one by one on a normal unsuspecting day to create endless havoc. Oh well, today is going much better; it's Friday at least. Is your day going any better?

Just got back home, I had to run up to campus this morning and talk to my advisor to check and make sure graduation for next year is still on track (It is ). When I was driving back I noticed my brakes were gone and my brake light on the dash was on (not usually a good sign). I stopped into our local shop and found the total price was around $892.00. I have to replace everything including the lines which blew.  This sucks, officially, otherwise my day has been just peachy. So how does your day compare?

I must certainly write that first article. And I think my ASP.NET forums, based on the layout of the Code Project forums, would be a good place to start. I said to Chris that I would get an article written ages ago - and I still haven't. 
My problem is that I am never completely happy with my code and keep wanting to change it before posting it! But I guess I should just go for it.
