Pretty interesting stuff.
Obama issued an unconstitutional regulation requiring religous institutions to provide birth control and abortion inducing (the day after pill) services, then walks it back after an uproar.
However, his accomodation is also unconstitutional, insurance companies must provide these for free: I wonder what article in the Constitution gives him the right to tell any company they must give something for no charge? I've looked in both my pocket constitution and my study text, The Heritage Guide to the Constitution, and try as I might I just can't find it.
There's an additional problem: many of these institutions self insure (they are their own insurance company, usually using a third party administrator to handle claims) so the problem will continue to exist.

The "accomodation" also raises some equal protection issues: If Catholic company "a" is not required to pay for employee contraceptive coverage, but gets it anyway, isn't requiring non-Catholic company "b" to pay for the same coverage problematic?
Having stepped in the Cow Pie with one foot, Obama now proceeds to dance around in it with both feet. It nauseates me to think we might have another 4 years of this guy, because the republican establishment insists on running a rich idiot as his opponent.
[edit] The only thing that surprises me about this, is that they came out with it before 4:00PM Friday, for a change. Not much before, but still in time for the evening news cycle...[/edit]

Excellant point, hadn't considered that possibility.
I guess this is the problem we get with a semi-monarchy.

Gingomney, or maybe Romerich, I forget which. Both big government statists. Both beatable, although I'll be holding my nose and voting for one of them in November...

may be a 3rd choice.[^] I recieved this link on Wednesday follwing his sweep of the Co, MN and Mo beauty contests. His goal was $1,000,000 in donations. He's exceeded expectations, the number grows by about $500,00 per day. Shows grass root support, IMHO.

The big money has already picked Romney, even at that rate Santorum needs months to catch up with Romney's bankroll (and Romney's still collecting at about the same rate). Santorum gets his moment in the spotlight, but he has no chance of the nomination. Besides, he's really no better if you look at his record in the Senate: just another big government Bush era republican. Just one more "not Romerich" flash in the pan.
At least Santorum will keep things alive for a while, best hope now is a brokered convention that pulls a rabbit out of the hat (say a Christie rabbit...).
[edit] I guess I do find Santorum a more tolerable, more solidly Conservative selection than what's left of the pack, he'll probably get my vote in the Ga. primary, and I may send him some bucks as well. [/edit]

I can only support Christie on the same basis I can support Romney: the only Republican on the ticket.

A great win for women. Obama played it well. Contraception is available as preventive care, just as it should be.

that may be the most ignorant thing you've ever uttered, sounds just like Barbara Boxer.
The point is, Obama doesn't have the authority to direct any company to do anything.

Yes, some of which are even under court review as we speak for their legality. To my knowledge there aren't any that state the insurance company HAS to offer anything specific. Most just happen to offer the same coverages due to consumer demand.
Most of the regulations have to do with dealing with personal data and financial things by the way. Those laws, to me, make sense as it protects me from some idiot customer service rep giving out my information.

The ones about forcing companies to offer coverage or otherwise forcing everyone to purchase coverage. That is after all a law now right? Not fully implemented but something on the books for the future.

Except, in this case, it is a dictate. It does not derive from a legislative process at any level of government. Dictate, you know, as in dictatorship.
