I know your busy with the upgrade and all. But I just thought it would be nice to include in the user settings a skin selection (or color maybe) where the user can choose the skin of his/her choice. Starting with the original skin that we can name as "classic". What do you think?

I think this is pretty good idea.. but i think it might not be high-priority case since we can still go with the original one..

The link to the math / Algorithms forum seems to be missing from the new lists and green drop menu.
Not only have the links gone, but all posts to it in my profile seem to have disappeared as well. Maybe this forum got lost in the database migration??

Yeah, the CP database works without any algorithm right now, hence at less than optimal speed.

I notice the colour of your name/post for when you get a 5, has gone to more of a brown. Now on my monitor, its harder to tell the differenc between crappy post, and excellent post.
Maybe its just me, or maybe i'm going mad, but there it is.
My current favourite word is: Bauble!

What's gone wrong with CP? My profile is stuffed: all votes missing, listed as "Web developer" which I never chose, and so on. Also it seems terribly slow.

The site was upgraded from Classic ASP to ASP.NET. There are some teething problems. Things seem to be going much faster now than they did a couple of hours ago.

Not only that the site has being upgraded from ASP to its .NET version but so has CP itself. It finally turned into one of those trendy .NET-heavy pages. $MS did a great job of turning heads around ...

When you request a password recovery email, it sends your logon email and password back to you as a plaintext email.
It might be nice to have it send a randomly generated new password or a password reset link instead, since a lot of people use the same password for a lot of things and might not want coworkers looking over their shoulders to see it.

Hi,
have you thinked about putting like a page numbers serie to navigate into forums? I mean something like google or other sites. I think a good format could be:
First | (Actual-10) | (Actual-2) | Previous | .Actual = N. | Next | (Actual+2) | (Actual+10) | Last??
It is quite annoying to go back one page at a time if you have to find a message for a week ago (at least in forums with so much messages as VC++) if you forget to get the perma link.

I know, there is the search option, but if you go out during a few days, after weekend or holidays or just two three days that you didnt come in forum... you have to go back 10 - 20 pages one per one, too take a look on what was written in your absence

Hi All/Chris,
Is it possible to offer up time/services to CodeProject? If so, I'd like to assist in lessening the load of the staff.
I'm not a web guy, so the html stuff is out of my league. But the high level protocols (especially in the area of data confidentiality, integrity, and authenticity) is right up my alley. With some help (help on the web usability side of the control), I could probably code up some ActiveX widgets if CP needed them for whatever reason.
Also, even though my under graduate degree was in Computer Science, I took a lot of Information Systems classes. My feeling was that the greatest product in the world was worthless if it could not be easily used. To that end, I focused on User Interface design. So if there are any design issues which need to be addresed, I can assist there also.

I appreciate the offer, Jeff, but we don't currently use ActiveX controls in the site (not cross browser, not acceptable to many people, so last century )
The best thing you could do is keep up the suggestions and be patient with us. Usablity is a whole massive project we want to undertake next year so I'd be very happy to have help in that regard.

They are also deemed to be insecure. However, how about having the following at least to restricted sections like http://labs.codeproject.com/[^] to demonstrate new technologies.
I would suggest like:
1) Silverlight
2) .NET based ActiveX Controls (For sure, Internet Explorer has good security for .NET controls in place since even IE 5.5 Tools Internet Options highlights. Isn't it?)

It would be nice to see the current ratings next to the article on the front page links. For example, if an article has only 1 vote of 1, I would still read it. But if it had 8+ votes that averaged 1, I would probably skip it altogether.
I recently did a google search for keywords to a problem I was trying to solve. It came up with an article on CP, so I brought it up. It wasn't very good, so knowing that the article had a poor rating quickly after being posted would've helped. I later did a search on CP, filtering out less than 3 rating, and read a good article that helped. I'm pretty sure that articles that end up in Purgatory aren't included in the google scan but even bad article are indexed when first put up.
Another nice feature would be an "ignore" of "so-called authors" that consistantly upload really worthless articles. Even a filter by country would be good since some areas of the world tend to have high percentages of work that end up in purgatory or removed for plagiarism.
CP is more valuable to me than MSDN in a lot of cases. I would like to see good quality information within easy reach instead of wading through junk first.
