It does it with ANY child message.
 
I picked this link as it is several layers down the stack; http://www.codeproject.com/Messages/4293980/Re-Pasting-Google-links-as-Solution-instead-of-a-C.aspx[^]
 
Follow the link, the message is blue, hovering over the subject line does not make it become underlined and the arrow lines to parent do not show. All other message in the thread continue to display the link lines correctly.
 
This is on Chrome 20, but did it with 19 as well.
