Hello the standard RXTX (http://rxtx.qbang.org/[^]) communication library is not suitable because priory to occupying the specified port it lists all available ports is the system. This is time consuming because sometimes it delays up to 4 (four) minutes to list the ports.
Is there any other library which lets to assign (occupy) the specified port directly by giving its name without listing all the ports in the system?

The rxtx library code is available so you could always modify it. There might also be an option or execution path to avoid your problem area.

I am also curious what "sometimes" means? Does that mean on one computer this sometimes happens? Or that on many computers this sometimes happens?

No, it does not depends on computer but on ports. I had installed bluetooth which occupied few ports for which listing (identifying: more precisely an instruction
CommPortIdentifier.getPortIdentifiers(); ) RXTX took around four minutes. But when I uninstalled bluetooth and manually deleted (from Device Manager) the ports, the newly installed port for communication with my microcontroller could be identified "in a moment".

So it is the bluetooth discovery process itself which is taking a long time.
Presumably you only intend to eliminate the discovery process after the port is initially configured. Also presumably you only allow fixed ports because otherwise without the discovery confirmation your application will fail in unexpected ways if the port disappears.

i want to implement registration form which include unique id. when user enter email id in textbox after leave textbox automatic match that email id if this id is take by another user then give error to existing user.
like nik@gmail.com is save in database.
new user ABC enter Nik@gmail.com at that time give error without reload entire page.
how can Possible in java.

You might want to consider what happens if the user wants to change their email address.
Other than that your basic conceptual model is.
1. Create database table to store email address
2. Choose one of the following options
a. Store email as is, then search using a 'lower case' SQL function.
That function will be specific to your database.
b. Lower case the email then store it.
None of the above has anything to do really with Java - but it is all possible in java as well as a number of other languages.

Hello,
I have a java program that runs/looks fine in windows however the "window" or the area of the screen containing the program remains small when viewing on a mac. The small size is causing fields to be truncated. For example part of the date of birth is not visible. I have googled the issue and noticed that users of yahoo games are having the same issue with java and macs.
The reason I posted this in the java forums is I was wondering if there is any java code I can include to force the window to expand on a mac? The mac I am testing this on has the Lion os and java version (well apple's version) 634.

I believe you can detect the type of OS and VM by looking at the system variables.
Look at System.getenv() or System.getProperties(). Just enumerate through either list to see what is in there.

os.name
os.version
which are returned by the System.getProperties() method.

The simple answer is that you can't.
Java runs an an application so it doesn't have access to the 'screen'. It is possible to share the application with another application though.
One could do something with Java but it would require writing something in another language besides Java (like C++) and then have the java app interact with the C++ code. Although I suspect in such a case the java code itself might be only a small part of the overall solution.

I've never done this before but maybe I might be of help if I just gave you the layout.
For the simplest, you could capture the screen into a PNG and stream it to the other party. Bitmaps are "heavy" when it comes to this. If you want to try it with me we can do it.

I don't suspect that this would work for 'sharing'. Viewing perhaps. The problem is that the target computer would then need to analyze each picture to identify components, such as icons, windows, etc, before the target user could interact with it.

Interaction is not done on the visual level. The visual level is just feedback or presentation of what is happening underneath. You'd want to stream mouse state packets containing the mouse data(i.e, location, keys pressed etc).

You might want to start first by investigating which container (what EE runs in) you want to use.
The container should dictate which VM version you should target.

I am having some issues using eclipselink 2.3.2 with a foxpro database. Connecting and using the database isn't the problem. The problem is that we use another foxpro application on the same database and there are times when the other app can't update a record. The java app that uses eclipselink doesn't have a problem updating. But the only way to fix the problem in the foxpro app is to actually close the java app. So the question is, is there something that might not be obvious that I am missing that either eclipselink or jdbc:odbc does that would cause a lock on a table?
Here is the persistance.xml setup

Presumably you are aware that that product is no longer supported and has been discontinued. The last support release was in 2007. So creating a migration strategy is probably going to be a good idea.
And I wouldn't be surprised if at some time in the future you will no longer be able to get a ODBC driver for it for newer windows versions (although maybe a commercial third party will supply it.)

Yes, i would love nothing more to move away from foxpro. But unfortunately we won't be able to migrate for a while. One of our main products is stuck in VFP for the foreseeable future.
