NewsWSO2 to Present Technical Webinar on Building and Deploying SaaS Applications with the WSO2 Application Server as a Service Pin
Thursday, July 19, 2012 7:23am by andrew.kinetic
WSO2 webinar on July 26, will explore how to build, host and secure SaaS applications with full SOA functionality

Palo Alto, CA – July 19, 2012 – Increasingly, enterprises are recognizing software-as-a-service (SaaS) as a cost-efficient way to deliver applications. However, the success of a SaaS implementation depends on the platform-as-a-service (PaaS) on which it runs. Today, only a few PaaS offerings provide the middleware services required to develop and integrate complex service-oriented architecture (SOA) applications in the cloud. To address this challenge, WSO2 will conduct a free webinar on how IT architects and developers can take advantage of the WSO2 Application Server as a Service (http://wso2.com/products/application-server) to optimize SaaS applications.

The one-hour technical session, “WSO2 Advantage Webinar - Building and Deploying SaaS Applications with the WSO2 Application Server as a Service," is being held twice on Thursday, July 26: 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. PDT for the Americas and 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. GMT for Europe and Asia-Pacific. For more information, visit http://wso2.org/library/webinars/2012/07/wso2-advantage-webinar-building-deploying-saas-applications-wso2-application-server-thursday-july-12.

Building and Deploying SaaS Applications

The webinar will begin with a brief introduction to the capabilities of the WSO2 Application Server as a Service, which is part of the WSO2 Stratos cloud middleware platform (http://wso2.com/cloud/stratos) that provides cloud-native features, such as self-provisioning, multi-tenancy, elasticity and metering. The session then will examine how to successfully create a tenant, and have it up and running with full SOA functionality. The webinar also will demonstrate how to build a Web application using WSO2 Developer Studio and then host it in the WSO2 Application Server as a Service. Finally, the session will review how to secure and expose Web applications as SaaS.

The webinar will be presented by Kishanthan Thangarajah, WSO2 software engineer and a member of the WSO2 development technologies team, who focuses on the WSO2 Application Server and WSO2 Application Server as a Service. He is an active Apache Axis2 project contributor and also has contributed to the Elgg open source social networking engine.

GeneralPayLane For Geeks Pin
Wednesday, July 18, 2012 10:03pm by PayLane
PayLane.com, an online payments processing provider, has launched Developer Zone – a website for programmers with full documentation and code samples needed to integrate with PayLane.
PayLane has become even more developer-friendly and published code samples necessary to use PayLane services. Now, even before signing a contract with PayLane, you can see what the technical side of such implementation looks like. Developer Zone includes a description of two ways of integrating with PayLane – via API and Secure Form (payment form) – with a detailed illustration of the communication flow. Besides that, programmers have now access to code samples including PHP, Java, C#, Ruby, Python, cURL, which demonstrate possible use of PayLane API. What is interesting, developers can now write code in their favourite programming language thanks to PayLane API being based on SOAP.

Requests demo, which allows performing a test payment, generates request and response examples, with which the programmer can see what communication with PayLane looks like – both successful and not.

Every developer gains an unlimited access to full documentation of PayLane, which so far was available only to their clients, such as the description of API, Secure Form, Transaction Notifications and 3-D Secure Guide, which will help choose the optimal service.

For online shop owners, PayLane has prepared the Plugins section, which contains the description of PayLane add-ons for e-commerce platforms and an installation guide. Any shop built on Magento, osCommerce, Zen Cart, OpenCart, PrestaShop or WordPress can now accept PayLane payments on their websites in just a few minutes.
No doubt developers will appreciate a tongue-in-cheek feature – Developer Zone can be viewed in normal and “geek mode”.

More information over at Developer Zone and PayLane's blog Across the Board.

GeneralGenerate & Recognize Barcode from Image Using Cloud Based Barcode API Pin
Sunday, July 15, 2012 6:19pm by saaspose

What's New in this Release?

Saaspose development team is proud to announce the new release of Saaspose.Barcode. Saaspose.Barcode API provides great flexibility while generating new barcode images. You can generate new barcode image and save it on the Saaspose storage or you can download it at your end using the API and save it in a stream or a file. While generating barcode image, you can specify the barcode symbology of your choice. In order to create actual barcode, you also need to specify the code text for the barcode.

You can also set image and text attributes while generating barcodes. For example, you can set image format, image resolution, X and Y dimensions etc. You can also set font type, font size, font style, font color, background color, and alignment etc. to decorate the barcode text. All of these attributes can be set with the help of a single URI, in a single call. This shows you the flexibility and ease of use with which you can generate barcode using Saaspose.Barcode REST API. Saaspose.Barcode API provides same flexibility when you try to recognize barcode from image. You can either recognize a barcode from a local file on the storage or you can specify an image URL. Saaspose.Barcode can recognize the barcode from the remote image easily and quickly, so you do not even need to upload it to Saaspose server. These operations can be performed either using direct REST URIs or the SDKs. The REST URIs allows you to write your own code to invoke the Saaspose.Barcode API operations. You can write this code from scratch or use some REST client for your language which invokes these operations. While using direct REST URIs, you’ll have to handle the request and response in your own code. This definitely provides you more flexibility. On the other hand, we provide SDKs in different languages, including .NET, Java, PHP etc. These SDKs are wrappers on our REST URIs. We have exposed simple methods in these SDKs which provide you an easy way to invoke these barcode generation and recognition operations quickly. You do not need to write much code. Also, these SDKs are open source, so you can also see what’s going on inside and extend these SDKs for your own requirements. You can download barcode generation and recognition SDKs from Saaspose’s Github repositories.

New case study examines how eXelate ensures real-time data delivery and continuity

Mountain View, CA -- July 11, 2012 -- The need to know is now. That is particularly true for eXelate, the leading data and analytics engine powering optimal digital marketing decisions for advertisers. The company partners with hundreds of Web publishers and offline data distributors to make online, offline, and custom modeled data sets actionable across 400 million online consumers worldwide. A new case study published today by Citrusleaf explores how eXelate ensures the real-time delivery and continuity of this data using the Citrusleaf NoSQL database for real-time processing and cross data center replication. The full eXelate case study is available at: http://citrusleaf.com/_docs/eXelate_CaseStudy_071012.pdf.

eXelate enables digital marketers to make the right marketing decisions by providing data and insight on shoppers’ online purchase intent, household demographics, and likely behavior. To support a marketer’s need to make split-second decisions, the company runs four data centers that physically bring data closer to its customers while also managing redundant data sets to ensure continuity in the event that one data center fails.

The case study from Citrusleaf reviews how eXelate has implemented the Citrusleaf database in each of its four data centers to provide continuity while delivering real-time actionable data to digital publishers and marketers. Key benefits of the Citrusleaf database include:

• Helps eXelate process 20 billion unique data transactions every month across multiple geographic regions.

NewsWSO2 and Eucalyptus Systems to Conduct Webinar on Building a Cloud Application Platform Pin
Wednesday, July 11, 2012 6:18am by andrew.kinetic
WSO2 and Eucalyptus Systems technical webinar will explore how to build a cloud application platform that decreases server count, associated risk, burden and expense

Palo Alto, CA – July 11, 2012 – A cloud application platform environment can enhance development team agility, lower security risk, streamline application management, and raise server efficiency. However, cloud application teams are discovering that, at scale, traditional virtual server tenancy environments create a proliferation of cloud machine instances, which increase the security risk, management burden, and operational expense. To help IT professionals adopt best practices and avoid these risks, WSO2 and Eucalyptus Systems will conduct a joint webinar, “Building a Cloud Application Platform.”

The webinar will be presented jointly by Chris Haddad, WSO2 vice president of technology evangelism, and Paul Weiss, Eucalyptus Systems senior cloud engineer. The session is being held twice on Wednesday, July 18, 2012 from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Pacific and 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. GMT for Europe and Asia-Pacific. For more information, visit http://wso2.org/library/webinars/2012/07/building-cloud-application-platform.

Together Chris and Paul will examine how organizations can develop a scalable, automated, multi-tenant environment that enforces security isolation, pools database and user resources, and rapidly provisions application environments. The session also will:

* Examine the cloud architecture components underpinning the cloud-native WSO2 Stratos cloud middleware platform (http://wso2.com/cloud/stratos) and Eucalyptus Cloud platform (http://www.eucalyptus.com/eucalyptus-cloud) for on-premise infrastructure as a service (IaaS) clouds.

* Explain how operation teams can specify and define resource sharing, partition tenants, and monitor service performance.

* Review how to establish a run-time feedback loop between an application and infrastructure.

* Discuss why Java container multi-tenancy increases tenant density and decreases cloud environment count.

Webinar Presenters

Chris Haddad, WSO2 vice president of technology evangelism, works closely with developers, architects, and C-level executives to increase WSO2 technology adoption, improve the middleware platform, and maximize customer value. He has been advising Fortune 500 companies and charting a vision toward “Cloud 2020,” both in his current role and as a former research vice president at the Burton Group and Gartner.

GeneralHow CodePorting Engine converts C# Code to Java Pin
Tuesday, July 10, 2012 6:05pm by codeporting
CodePorting is a web-based C# to Java converter that allows you to convert your C# code to java accurately. CodePorting use a powerful parsing engine that translates million of lines of codes from C# to java and also ensures that quality and formatting of the generated code is preserved. Codeporting makes your application platform independent and you can get your code converted in no time. CodePorting provides you the most secure, reliable and productive code conversion by using absolute converting engine.

CodePorting is very simple to use and it provides you accurate result. You only need to sign-in and start converting your code without installing any application. Let’s now have a look at how it actually works to provide the code translation that is quick, secure and accurate.

• Parses C# source code
• Translates the syntax
• Intelligently converts .NET classes/methods to Java using CodePorting C#2Java maps
• Prints newly generated code to Java file

CodePorting use highly developed C# 2 Java parser which convert C# code to tree. This tree goes through many phases and convert the C# syntax into Java syntax and finally generate the accurate java code. In the last phase classes/members that are found in the mapping file provided by user are converted to java names and their imports are added. Once this is done tree is embedded to java file.
The first thing you need to do is to upload your C# source code to codeporting. We support three different methods for the purpose; let’s have a look at each of it:

Direct source code upload: You can upload the C# code directly to the porting engine.
Source code repository import: You can create your project by importing C# code in CodePorting from code repositories, both public and private.
Source code conversion through Microsoft Visual Studio Add-in: You can convert your complete .NET application to CodePorting through this add-in instantly. Upload the source code from Visual Studio and get your code converted into Java without leaving the local environment. You may choose to convert a single file or a complete project by installing the add-in to your Visual Studio environment.

After uploading the code using one of the above method, the conversion cycle starts. The parsing engine performs various core activities where C# code and library mappings work together to generate the final output file. The C# Code is parsed and syntax tree is generated to be translated into java.

The important part of the whole process is mapping and codeporting mapping library includes Java classes with interfaces matching .NET classes. Codeporting has created classes/methods for most frequently used C# classes and and they are continuously adding more classes/methods in the library. CodepOrting has also given this opportunity to user to add a class in the C#2Java library in case of the class does not exist with the same functionality.

After mapping and conversion the parsing engine generated the file java code ready to be used as a platform independent application/code which provides the same functionality as C# code. This process eliminates the massive amount of work needed to convert to C# code to Java manually.

Newly added articles and documentation pages

- How CodePorting Engine converts C# Code to Java
- CodePorting has converted more than 5 Million lines of C# code to Java
- Convert C# is Operator to instanceof Operator in Java
- Codeporting has improved CSharp to Java library and mapping coverage

About CodePorting C#2Java App

CodePorting helps you make your .NET applications cross platform compatible and allows migrating your .NET solutions, projects and files into Java in the cloud. Other than speed and accuracy of conversion; port your C# code directly either by uploading .cs files contained in a .zip file or import directly from popular version control repositories like GIT, Mercurial HG and SubVersion. You can also download a Microsoft Visual Studio plugin and convert C# code in the real time without leaving the development environment. You may also build your own customized code conversion applications using CodePorting APIs.

NewsPDF Xpress v5 Released by Accusoft Pin
Tuesday, July 10, 2012 9:18am by Pegasus Imaging
TAMPA, Fla. – July 10, 2012 – Accusoft, the leading provider of document, content and imaging solutions, announces the release of PDF Xpress v5, a PDF SDK, which includes support for the latest PDF versions, new support for PDF portfolio and attachments, and the ability to extract images and pages from a PDF.

Using PDF Xpress developers will be able to build more feature rich applications by giving users more control over PDF documents. Developers can now build a portfolio PDF viewer that can view all of the attachments of a PDF Portfolio, as well as add and remove PDF attachments.

Legal professionals often need to share information about cases. All case related documents can be contained in a PDF portfolio, which can contain images, Word documents, spreadsheets and more, all in one single PDF document. PDF Xpress v5 provides support for PDF portfolios, allowing developers of legal applications the ability to create viewers or report on the contents of the case PDF portfolio during discovery.

“PDF Xpress v5 is a high level SDK that requires very little code to add PDF functionality to document imaging applications,” said Steve Wilson, Director of Native Core Imaging at Accusoft. “Among the many new features available, users can now extract images and pages contained in a PDF, which expands their ability to access and reuse the information in a document.”

The ability to extract each image in a PDF and extract pages from a PDF document are also new features with PDF Xpress v5. Users can now easily move, add and delete groups of pages, or extract specific pages from a PDF document. PDF Xpress v5 can even automatically create a new PDF document using the extracted pages.

Image extraction from a PDF file is useful when creating web pages, PowerPoint presentations, Word documents, etc. from images contained in a source PDF document. For example, web developers can utilize images and text from a PDF to produce web content. The uncompressed image data can be extracted and easily passed to other Accusoft components for further image processing.

Finally, users have greater control over PDF properties with the version 5 release. Developers can add and edit the properties of hyperlinks, determine the PDF version of a document and change bookmark properties with PDF Xpress v5.

Palo Alto, CA – July 10, 2012 – Many cloud advocates believe that a pay-as-you-go financial model will quickly shrink application project expenses, reduce capital expenditures, and protect against vendor lock-in. However, many organizations still struggle to achieve financial improvement and must tailor project-funding dynamics to meet their needs. The fifth WSO2 Cloud Summer School class of 2012 will explore how IT professionals can determine the appropriate financial model to maximize savings.

The interactive online class, “Demonstrating Cloud Value,” is being offered at no cost as a part of the WSO2 Cloud Summer School program. It will be held on Tuesday, July 17, 2012 from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Pacific. To participate, register at: http://wso2.org/library/webinars/2012/07/wso2-summer-school-2012-demonstrating-cloud-value.

The class will review where the application funding process is broken and examine when a cloud pay-as-you-go financial model will be successful. Additionally, the session will discuss how organizations can demonstrate savings through enterprise show-back or charge-back models.

NewsTop Canadian University Uses MadCap Flare to Teach Online Documentation Best Practices Pin
Monday, July 9, 2012 11:49am by andrew.kinetic
New case study from MadCap Software examines how Simon Fraser University students are using Flare’s single-source publishing and topic-based authoring to put concepts into practice

La Jolla, CA, USA – July 9, 2012 – MadCap Software, Inc., the leader in multi-channel content authoring and a showcase company for Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) Visual Studio and Microsoft XPS, today announced that it has published a new case study on Simon Fraser University (SFU). By taking advantage of single-sourcing in MadCap Flare, students are able to take the technical communications best practices they have learned in the university’s online Certificate in Technical Communication and put them into practice.

Recognized as one of Canada’s top three comprehensive universities for more than 20 years, SFU is committed to offering courses that combine robust academics with real-world best practices that students will require in their professional careers. In a course called Fundamentals of Creating Online Documents, which is part of the online Certificate in Technical Communication, this commitment means using MadCap Flare to give students hands-on experience in applying the latest online documentation best practices.

* Single-sourcing enables SFU students to take the same content and deliver it to the desktop, on the Web, or as mobile Help, supporting businesses’ requirements for multi-channel publishing.

* A patented navigation bar on the side of the built-in WYSIWYG editor demonstrates the underlying code, making it easier for students to learn concepts, such as cascading style sheets and XHTML.

* Topic-based publishing in Flare helped students to gain insights and understanding into this modern approach to content authoring.

* Easy-to-use interface allowed students to get started immediately, create projects within one week, and then build on the project incrementally as they added new skills.

The full Simon Fraser University case study is available at: www.madcapsoftware.com/casestudy/simonfraser.aspx.

“Flare’s single-sourcing to multiple outputs, including mobile, has given our students first-hand experience in publishing to the different online formats that companies require,” said Sue Andrews, an instructor in SFU’s Writing and Communications Program, which offers the Certificate in Technical Communication. “Flare has really delivered on our expectations and opened new opportunities for our students. In fact, one student went on to buy a copy of Flare for her company.”

“As one of Canada’s premier educational institutions, Simon Fraser University has a world-class technical communication program that is empowering students with the latest techniques and technologies for delivering online content,” said Anthony Olivier, MadCap founder and CEO. “We are excited by SFU’s initial success in teaching students how to use our state-of-the-art MadCap Flare so they can get hands-on experience in publishing to multiple devices and channels—all from a single product.”

GeneralCodeporting has upgraded CSharp to Java library and mapping coverage Pin
Sunday, July 8, 2012 7:25pm by codeporting
Codeporting C#2java Application has many powerful customization and administration options for developers and a Class Library Manager is also available to convert .Net types to respective java types. CodePorting provides user friendly interface to its users so that they can customize library map according to their project needs.

Users can assign maps for following types of class members:

• Extension Method
• Instance Member
• Indexer
• Instance Method
• Static Member
• Property

Let me explain you how mapping is going to work in CodePorting App.

The most important input to C#2Java converting engine is Library Map. There are two possibilities while converting C# .Net library methods to java.

First possibility is that a method exists in java library which provides same functionality as provided in .Net library method. If this is the case then C#2Java engine only need to know about that and that is where library mapping play its part.

Lets take an example of System.Console.out method.

Following are it’s details in .NET

.NET Class: System.Console
.NET Method (Static): WriteLine(System.String)

In Java .Net method is mapped as following

Java Class: System.out
Java Method (Static): printf(string)

The above C#2Java mapping helps in converting .Net library to java properly.

Second possibility is that a method does not exists in java library that provides same functionality as provides by .Net library method. If this is the case then there is no counter part of .Net method in java. if this the case codeporting engine first writes a method which provides the same functionality as .net method does.

Lets take an example of System.Drawing.ColorTranslator.FromWin32(int) method.

Following are it’s details in .NET

.NET Library: System.Drawing
.NET Class: System.Drawing.ColorTranslator
.NET Method (Static): FromWin32(int)

To map the above method Codeporting first writes a method in java with same input and output. Once done, Codeporting add this method in mapping so that engine knows how to translate this method in java.

Java Package: com.codeporting.csharp2java.System.Drawing.ColorTranslator
Java Class: ColorTranslator
Java Method (Static): fromWin32

Using the above information from mapping, the engine will translate it by importing the package com.codeporting.csharp2java.System.Drawing.ColorTranslator. After conversion, the above package where java method resides will be required to compile the generated code.

CodePorting team is continuously adding more and more methods in C#2Java Library to improve it. CodePorting team is proud to announce that we have upgraded C#2Java library and mapping. Lot of methods were added in, like System.Data, System.Drawing and many more.

Newly added articles and documentation pages

- Codeporting has improved CSharp to Java library and mapping coverage
- CodePorting has converted more than 5 Million lines of C# code to Java

About CodePorting C#2Java App

CodePorting helps you make your .NET applications cross platform compatible and allows migrating your .NET solutions, projects and files into Java in the cloud. Other than speed and accuracy of conversion; port your C# code directly either by uploading .cs files contained in a .zip file or import directly from popular version control repositories like GIT, Mercurial HG and SubVersion. You can also download a Microsoft Visual Studio plugin and convert C# code in the real time without leaving the development environment. You may also build your own customized code conversion applications using CodePorting APIs.
